Anyone wonder about the DVC TVs?

Since Disney is upgrading the TVs at the CR, Poly and now at WL to the flat screen TVs when they renovate the resorts. Anyone wonder if they eventually will upgrade the TVs at the DVC resorts?

I, personally, don't believe they will any time soon. But I think any new DVC resort (after SSR) should have the flat screens and that DVC will upgrade the TVs whenever they have the next major renovations scheduled at the existing resorts. Hopefully, this upgrade will already be funded and taken into account by the reserve funds for upgrades and will not require "extra" increases to our maintenance.

BUT BEFORE any TV upgrades, I would rather see all the sofa beds upgraded first!

If all the deluxe Disney resorts will have the flat screen TVs after renovation, then DVC really shouldn't fall too far behind, otherwise, they (esp. the DVC studios) really can't be categorized as equal to a deluxe. KWIM?

I'd rather see our fees used for new sofa beds first, too. New TVs would be nice, but not a critical item for us - and those flat screens aren't cheap, even in bulk. I'm sure DVC will get around to upgrading them at some point.

Well, the Polynesian and CR were BEHIND DVC and perhaps all the other resorts for some years. The TVs were pretty small until the recent change....19" maybe. :confused3

But that is at the bottom of my list. The TVs are just fine in my book and I would rather the dues go to just about anything before replacing TVs that are already a decent size. YMMV.

My vote is to upgrade the sofa beds, too. :thumbsup2

see my rant thread, where the pullouts figure into my response :rotfl2:

Or just new bed mattresses!
At VWL in the studio, I actually slept on the sofa bed rather than the bed.
Not that the pull out was super comfy :rotfl:

I do love the new flat screens, but it isn't a priority for us.

The replacement of TV's would be nice, but would place it behind new sofa beds and matteresses.

Although at VB and HH it would be nice to have the larger screens. There tends to be more relaxing going on there and watching a movie that you don't have to strain your eyes to see would be nice.

An upgrade to DVD players at VB would be nice, too. :thumbsup2

I think that as prices come down on the flat screens, the DVC units will get them as part of the normal rehab rotation. I know a lot of the TVs at OKW have been replaced with the traditional CRT tube type, so it will be a few years before we see them there.

Yeah- but were does it stop? Do we need hi def and a surround sound system too? HD Cds or Blueray? DH would never leave the room! :rotfl2:

I'm sure that all the resorts were slated to have had the TV changeover before now, since the original date that stations were to stop broadcasting low-definition signals was this year. It has been pushed back by the FCC to February 2009 now, so Disney has a couple of years to finish the changeover, but it will happen, probably sooner than that; once people are more accustomed to HDTV, they are not going to accept having a non-HDTV in a hotel room they pay big bucks for!

I attended the BWV annual meeting in 2003 and they said they were going to change the TV's to HDTV. I don't think it ever happened.

All in good time. We got the new sofa beds at OKW a couple years ago, and I know the TVs there were exchanged a couple years ago too. I think it will be awhile before we get the flat panels there. I think any new DVC will have them right away.

When we were at the BWV I was rather shocked at the size of the TVs... I remember thinking that I had a bigger TV than that in my bedroom at home. Then when we moved mid-trip over to POR, we noticed that the TVs were MUCH bigger (maybe 19" at BWV and 25-27" at POR?). I just recall thinking... wow, the mods have bigger TVs in the room than a deluxe! Anyway, it wasn't really a huge deal since we don't watch a lot of TV in the room anyway.

Adding the HDTVs would be nice, but it could involve more cost than just putting in a new TV. They have to consider the size of the TV and will it fit in the current entertainment centers... if not, that means new furniture too. Oh, and if they don't get the new TVs by 2009, they can always buy the converters so they can continue using the regular TVs.

Although I'd like to see newer/bigger TV's, I'd also like to see the sofabeds taken care of. We had the hardest time just trying to get the sofabed to pull out when we were at the BWV. I have no idea what it was like sleeping on it because I always get the bed! :thumbsup2

I'd rather see sofa and mattress upgrades first. we don't spend much time watching t.v. anyway.

yeah I'de definitely vote for better sofa beds...we really don't watch much TV while at the parks.

I don't think it has to be an either/or situation. I would imagine the dues component that we all pay for upgrades/replacements isn't calculated for a single item's replacement every few years. We would definitely need those extra 12 years to see a complete refurbishment if this were so. I'd prefer to think ( okay, hope ) that DVC replaces items as needed. The sofa beds are definitely in a sad state, but so are the televisions and cable hookups.

Just as there are members who don't watch much tv, there are others who probably never use the sofas for anything but sofas. Regardless of individual priorities, living with substandard materials isn't a good reflection on DVC with either new or existing members.

I guess when I visit my "home-away-from-home", I kind of expect it to have at least some of the creature comforts of an actual "home". Otherwise, it's just a hotel room, no matter what they advertise it as.

Wow-where were you on the Internet Access or ME discussions? I was going to post something sarcastic about the fact that I don't really watch much TV at Disney, so I wanted the cost of the flat screen TV's factored out of my dues and I don't use the pullout so I want that cost factored out....

Any upgrade, whether it is new TV's, internet access, complimentary transportation or sofa bed mattresses makes the experience better for everyone. We want DVC to be the best place to stay, with all the finest amenities available in any upscale hotel in the USA. I want my dues to go towards that end, whether the upgrades chosen benefit me specifically or not.
