I have TMJ and lately it has been a little worse. I'm worried about flying, I'm worried that the pressure will bother my jaw. I did fly last year and that did not happen, but like I said it has gotten a little worse. Has this happened to anybody on the plane??? If so was there anything you did to help it. Thanks!! We are not leaving til March, and I think about getting on that plane everyday, and having my jaw hurt :guilty:

When I had major problems with my TMJ my doctor sent me to PT for it and I thought he was off his rocker - but it worked and I learned how to control it

they taught me how to massage my jaw -

now when I have a flare up - I can massage my jaw and it subsides -

maybe you could ask your doctor how to do this or see if he knows someone who can teach you

Flying has never bothered my TMJ. I would hardly consider it a disability, though.

I work with TMJ from time to time...ans yes it can be a disability if you can't open your jaw enough to feed yourself...ya gotta eat to sustain yourself!!! I've had patients who have had it so bad they couldn't...we often use ultrasound to treat severe cases of TMJ with good results!!! DJ princess:

i have tmj-and had surgery about 24 years ago to keep it from causing further damage. i've never (before or after) had any problems on a plane with it-but to this day i refuse to chew gum (had my jaws lock twice before surgery while chewing gum), so i def. reccommend not chewing gum to deal with pressure issues on a plane.

I agree. My jaw has hurt so much it's put me to bed. But the average bear with TMJ usually doesn't have such a severe case like you listed.

Thanks for the replys, and No i don't really consider it a Disability, but I did not know where else to post, when I did a search there were plenty of topics that came up from this board about it. Thanks.
