Anyone With Recent Ticket Upgrade Experience?

A while back, there was some scuttlebutt here on the DIS about Disney changing their ticket-bridging policy. The report was that you would only receive the actual purchase price of the original ticket (not the current gate price) when upgrading. We have 5-day tickets that we bought from Orbitz which we plan to upgrade to AP's in October. We will use them first and then upgrade them later in the trip.

Has anyone recently upgraded tickets purchased at a discount and received the current gate price towards the upgrade? I am trying to solidify our budget and there is a large discrepancy between the two possible scenarios.

Thanks!

That has been repeatedly proven to be an unfounded rumor. I upgraded UT tix to a DVC PAP the week before Easter and bridging worked just fine.

I can't say I've recently upgraded to an AP but I have upgraded in the past. I was under the impression that the value applied to the upgrade depends on whether or not you've used the ticket already. Once it's been through the gate, Disney applies their equivalent value applied to the future ticket (ie: 10-day hopper cost). If the ticket has not be activated at all and you try to upgrade, they will apply exactly what you paid for the ticket, let's say $425.00, or whatever you paid.

Therefore if you buy discounted tickets, it's best to use them at least once before attempting up upgrade. So if you paid $425.00 for tickets that Disney would value at $450.00 you then wouldn't "lose" that 25.00.

Hopefully someone with recent experience can share. I can't think of his screen name at the moment :scratchin but there's a CM on here that explains everything about buying/using/upgrading tickets in a link in his signature.

Ruadisney, that is correct. You have to use the ticket once. The OP said that, so I know she is aware of that part of the policy.

Cheshire Figment, who you referred to, hasn't been on the boards for many months, but his ticket sticky on the Theme Parks page still has lots of good info.

Ahh, that's it. I have an awful head cold and can't think straight.

I get it. I re-read the OP and sorry I didn't see that she knew to use them first.

We upgraded 2 year old tickets from UT to DVC Ap's at the end of March. The first CM at EPCOT guest relations did not know how to price bridge our tickets. I asked her to get a Supervisor for guidance, and he would not price bridge the tickets. He told me that it was now Disney's policy to only give the price that you paid for the older tickets when upgrading. He wanted $750 to upgrade our 3 tickets to DVC AP's. I politely got my tickets back and left.

When leaving EPCOT, we went to the IG guest relations, and the CM there upgraded and price bridged without me even having to ask. Saved us almost $200.

Bottom line, it just depends on which CM you get - supervisors included. Just be prepared to spend a little more of your vacation time finding a guest relations CM that is knowledgeable about price bridging and is willing to do it.
