I will be trying for connecting rooms at the HOJO - has anyone ever stayed in a premium (park view) room and noticed a connecting door in the room? We needed 3 beds and I was able to book the ent. rate for 3 out of 6 nights at the HOJO.

If anyone had noticed the connecting door, how do the rooms connect? I guess I am too much of a worrier, and want to make sure we don't have any unexpected surprises..

Thanks for the help!

What do you mean by unexpected surprises? Yes Premium rooms can connect. i'm sure it like any typical connecting hotel rooms.

The connecting rooms in the premium Bldg. 1 rooms are all at the far end of the hallway, farthest away from the elevators. These are also the rooms that are closest to the freeway wall so I have found them to be a bit noisey.

The conneting doors are like any other connecting room doors in hotels. Each needs to be opened from it's own individual room in order to pass into the next room. Does that help?

We asked for connecting rooms with the Disney view (and we reserved months in advance).....we ended up with side by side rooms but not connecting.....so not all the rooms are equipped to do this.

....at the end of the hall by the stairs and yes i found them noisy...I ended up wearing ear plugs...we are going for the pool view rooms this time.

Well, I have a very handicapped older son (11yo) and he has a lot of equipment/supplies and we are taking a nurse with us, and so our younger son (9yo) will most likely be in the other room by himself at night with us in the other connecting room with our handicapped child. We need 3 beds, but we don't want to have our youngest in a room that doesn't connect through. (We are giving our nurse her own room for privacy reasons).

Is there a chance that we won't get connecting rooms, then? I don't want to end up in a situation that doesn't work for us.

Thanks

You best call Desert Inn and Suites!!! Their suites Are what you are looking for you!! will have 4 queen beds but it sounds like you will need the storage space anyway and the Nurse can have a Deluxe room[read standard single with 2 queen beds.] The suites have refrigerators and microwaves, too. And they have an
indoor pool, and FREE breakfast, Which at The least will get you free juices and milk!! to start your day!!

Desert Inn and Suites is really, really close to the DL entrance![see attached map] So it is easy to take naps or go back to the hotel for lunch. There is a McDonalds and a Quiznos right close by. McDonalds is good for a cheap breakfast, to save money for eating in the parks!! McDonalds is past the Camelot and Quiznos is just past the Carousel Inn and before the Camelot!

Here is a Map the arrow is pointing to the McDonalds and Quiznos! It shows all the hotels on Harbor Blvd as well!! HOJO is up by the arrow and Desert Inn and Suites is 8 hotels down from there!!
ps. The Timon parking lot is for Disable parking! but Desert Inn and Suites is so close I wouldn't even move my car!!

I would call back to HoJo's & let them know for MEDICAL reasons you MUST have a connecting. When we booked, they said I could request those but no guarantees.....if they weren't able to put us in a connecting then we would be next to each other. Your situation might have them guarantee you certain rooms.......it never hurts to call & talk with them directly about your specific needs. Good luck!!

We've stayed at the Desert Inn & Suites....it's nothing fancy & the beds weren't very comfortable (don't know if they've upgraded mattresses since our stay). The only bonus of this motel for us was location to the crosswalk.

I stayed in a PNK1 room (handicapped room building 3) in Oct/10. The reason is that I've got a really bad back and didn't want to haul around suitcases up and down stairs. That and the fact that I was travelling solo, and didn't want to take up a room that a family could have booked instead. That being said, the room was spacious, the bathroom huge, and was outfitted completely for those who are diabled. There was a connecting room, but I don't know what the beds were in the connecting room. There was a King sized bed in it, but I don't know the layout of the connecting room. I can tell you that it was perfect for a disabled person. I would suggest that you contact HOJO's directly and ask for in house reservations. Talk to one of their staff, and I'm sure that they are willing to work with your needs. Just book far enough in advance so that the rooms are available that you need when you book. I love this hotel, and the staff are willing to help you out with any concerns or questions you may have. Hope that this helps you out.

Did you try booking one of the suites? There are not that many, but you may be able to get one?

We stayed there in December with my parents & we had connecting rooms on the 7th floor. They were at the end of the hall & closest to the freeway (as a PP mentioned). I had requested this when we booked & was told that they can not guarantee it but they would try their best. Upon checking in we were told that although the rooms were not ready for us (it was noon-ish) we DID have connecting rooms. I, as well, found these rooms to be noisy, the last one specifically (the one our family stayed in) & I did wear earplugs to sleep as well. That being said, I would stay in these rooms again if we needed connecting rooms. I would do as DizNee Luver suggested & call them! :) The staff there are very helpful & will let you know if they can do anything for you.

i like hojo an im sure they could help just tell them its medical reasons

Location! Location! I need that close location!

I don't know how HOJO is decorated but I bet it doesn't have Disney Decor. I could never walk that far! To even consider staying there.

The Desert Inn's beds have always been great for us and we are bed snobs!! And the Decor is the least of my worries, LOL! I DO like having the microwave and refrigerator. I buy my own Diet Coke, and bottled water to take into the Park and I want them COLD! I like having microwave food items at the ready, for my Diabetes and all!

Even WDW All Stars Music Decor wasn't Disney and it wasn't my thing. 2 Star lights that glared so much we never turned them on. And I really hated the bathroom wallpaper it gave me the willys there were Men Staring at you all the time! Even while in the shower or anytime the bathroom was needed!! It was yucky!! did I say yucky??Of course, it didn't help that my blood sugar had dropped to 40[this is coma time] and I thought I was going to die in that bathroom before Dh and Dd figure out I had glucose tablets in my purse and all they had to do was have me chew 4 of them!!!LoL!!

with all due respect. i dont mean this in a bad way at all, its great if you prefer a different hotel, and i hope you enjoy your times there, but it sounds like the poster wants to stay at hojo, and was asking opinions on that specific hotel rather than others, and you have pushed desert inn twice now, i love hojo, they are VERY clean, great beds, water area, amazing staff, and if anyone really thinks this is a far walk, then it would be due to medical issues or laziness. it took us 6 minutes to get to the gate with a baby. im not into fitness...but i could do that 9 months pregnant. i think the poster wanted to know about hojo and not be pushed to a different place...hojos is WONDERFUL, my mother stayed at desert inn ONCE and never will again, compared to hojos it was definitely no frills...everyone has their own taste, and if you like desert thats fine, but poster asked about hojos which is an amazing place, and great rates, so leave it at that. for anyone who questions a hotel they have never stayed at the best possible thing to do is read reviews! desert in has only a 77% positive, and is number 40 out of 108 hotels in anaheim on trip advisor which is about the middle. hojos on the other hand, is 90% positive, and number 6 of 108 area hotels. the reviews speak for it. they have good rates not to mention the ET card, and very amazing staff. if someone asks a review of hotels in the area, then its good to input on everything but i believe the poster asked about hojo and probably because she heard glowing reviews about it. so for the poster,
yes they have good connecting rooms poster, and you should call and request a guarantee for medical reasons as the staff is amazing and will go above and beyond for customers. they have suites as well that could be a good option for your family. have a safe and wonderful trip with your family, no matter where you stay!!!

if anyone really thinks this is a far walk, then it would be due to medical issues

Didn't I say I had a Medical Condition? I really thought I did.....Well I have several! So, location is key. Because walking is difficult.

And I have never had a bad stay at "my choice of hotel" and with the suites I never have to worry about connecting doors. So Pardon My Pixie Dust for trying to help!!!

Loved the connecting rooms on the 7th floor in the premium rooms @ Hojo's, we were able to stay there in March 2010 and didn't find it noisy in the least. We live in a small city that we are not used to freeway noise and in those rooms we don't notice the noise. On the other side, the kids suite room side, we do notice the noise but it's not bad at all, and rather soothing. The beds are THE MOST comfortable I have ever slept on, so are the down comforters. Oh my gosh. I wish I lived there! We had a situation where 2 young boys would be staying (12 and 13 years) in that room, and we were told they couldn't guarantee adjoining rooms, more for the fact that something can happen the day before, such as water damage, broken plumbing, etc. that may not allow the rooms to be connecting, so yes, they were great about it, and did follow our requests through, but at the same time, they had to make sure that we understood that due to unforseen circumstances, should they arise, that they simply could not guarantee a connecting room... I think they will probably accommodate your needs easily, but, it might make more sense for you to grab a kids suite if you can. There is plenty of room there, rooms are nicely decorated, and 2 bathrooms as well, too.
The walk isn't bad at all, our DD did the walk easily when she was just 4 years old. You will walk around so much in the parks that the walk to and from Hojo's is non-negligible IMO. I did the walk 3 times one day, and it was manageable. Some days we did that walk twice. Having McD's close by is good for snacks on the way back from the park. Having Mimi's restaurant close by is a HUGE perk, as is the water park, the in-room safes, and the super staff.
Have a fun trip, OP!! :):goodvibes

Edited to add; the way the doors connect, is that the room farther from the end, inside, between the 2 rooms, had a doorknob to open the door into the other room. The door could easily open up and then remain open, there was no automatic closure on the door. The room closest to the end of the hallway had no way to open the door to come into the first room unless the came out of the door leading into the hallway and knocked on the door to get back into the other room. A person could place a small rubber stopper in between the doors if they didn't want anyone from the other room to be locked out of first room. I think this is how it was... can someone please correct me if I am wrong?

yes, i saw that, and i do too, i have a few issues but i still walk comfortably and even my toddler walks that distance fine, i just figure if someone can walk through the parks all day, medical issues, pregnant, kids, then the walk for hojo is CAKE. i think it depends on the person but most ppl dont find the walk bad. and yeah, i understand like i said thats great you have good experiences at your hotel, but i felt that the poster asked about hojo and they should get hojo answers...meant no harm just say it as its seen =)

We were just there about a month ago (7th floor/vaulted ceiling, premium disney view room) & yep....there was def no automatic closure on either door...I remember that for sure & I am pretty positive that both doors had knobs & locks? :confused3 The reason that I am sure of this is that we used opening the doors as a signal to each other that we were ready to head out. I could be wrong? I thought that both rooms had it's own door that could be opened when wanted or closed & locked when wanted as well. We were in the last room in the hallway. But yes, anyone else feel free to correct me as well. My kids went in between the rooms alot (their grandparents were in the other room) & they remember it being this way as well. My parents are at the movies right now so I can't call to verify but I will check tomorrow if need be. I'll check back later to see! :)
