Just got some test results back for DS8 and he has Gluten Intolerance. As its genetic and he has inherited it from both myself and DH, we have decided to go GF as a family.

DS has been wheat free for some time and I had some suspicion of CD so I have some supplies and information. I'd really like to hear if anyone has any experience of being GF, the resources they've found useful, what to pack for school lunches :scared1: If anyone has bought GF products in bulk and what the experience was. Plus, how was it being GF at WDW (I figure its probably the best place to travel).

TIA

My wife is a Celiac person and Disney has been great about it. They always make gluten free foods for her to eat. If you are making ARD's/PS just let them know when you call it will be noted and the chef will actually come out to talk to you about the food options you have. Now on that note my wife doesn't abide by her GF diet she eats muffins and angel foodcake with strawberries etc but she knows this will make her feel terrible and thus doesn't complain to me about it after doing so. If you have any questions regarding this and WDW feel free to ask.

Hugs to you! I was tested for Celiacs but it came back negative. I was however diagnosed with crohn's so I know about diets.

I can't offer much for tips on diet for being GF but I have heard great things about disney being great on diet requirements.

Thanks for the hugs and support - very sweet and much appreciated. bababear_50 - I will check out the DisAbilities board for info for our Dec trip. We do have ADRs so I'll have to call and warn them.

F4disneyfan, I'm definitely interested to know what breads your wife is buying, if she has success with any particular brands and whether she just buys at a local health store or orders on-line. I'm finding $5++ a loaf seems to be the norm, guess my grocery bill is just about to skyrocket  BTW, how did your wife get on with CS at WDW? I get the feeling that this might be more difficult that TS.

Actually it was no problem at WDW we just let them know about her having Celiacs and they accomodated her very well. It didn't matter where we went to eat they made something for her that was GF. As for shopping we use Loblaws they sell Rice pasta and a number of other GF foods but you are correct your grocery bill is going to go up substantially. A small loaf of cornflour bread is anywhere from 5.50 to 8 bucks a loaf and it is about one third the size of your average loaf of wonder or Dempsters bread. If you have any other questions feel free to PM us.
