Hello DISboards members! Have you ever wondered what happens when people who have formed online relationships meet up offline? We are researchers from Western Illinois University who have wondered the same thing. If you are planning to meet up with someone you have met on www.disboards.com sometime in the next six months we hope that you will consider participating in our study.

Participation will occur in two phases. The first phase requires you to click on the link below and complete a short survey. Later, after you meet up with someone from the DISboards offline, we will email you a second survey. Each survey should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete. We would greatly appreciate your help!

If you have any questions concerning this study at any time please contact us at ComResearcher@gmail.com

Please follow this link to the survey: http://OnlinetoOffline.questionpro.com

even though this says 6 months out...if you're going on PCC 2.0....you'd be a perfect participant!

Neat! Forwarding it onto my "partner"!

I am going to Disney 3 times this year. 6/30, August Pin event and first week of December. At this point (because I am super shy) I have not made any plans to meet anyone at the parks. If I end up doing that, I will PM you? Penny :goodvibes

Will this count if I was organising a Dole Whip meet too? I am going in June, so I guess now will be the right time?

I'd love to participate but my friends I'll be hanging out with this summer are through a site that is a sponsor of the DIS but not the DIS directly.

I did this survey, but it was weird for me, because there are several people I'm meeting on more than one trip. And all of them are people on the DIS. I found it difficult to pick just one person!

Hi all!

Just to answer a couple questions - You can do the survey if you are meeting with someone you met online even if it is not from the DIS. The only requirement is that it is a person you met online who you have not previously met face-to-face.

I know it can be tricky to just pick one person when you are meeting several! However, it is important for the study that you do so, so that when we email you after the meeting you can tell us about your impressions of that person.

Thanks again to everyone who has (or will!) take the survey. We couldn't do this research without you!

I have been a part of another website since 1998-1999 give or take a few years. At one point I was able to read everything posted on the site. That is just impossible now. :) There have been quite a few meetings over the years for people who live some what close to each other. The website is http://www.tractorbynet.com

Wow. I just checked and TBN has almost 79,000 register users. Last time I looked it was 15,000. And almost two million posts. No way to read all of that content.

I would think the owners of TBN would help your research if you need a different base of people.

Later,
Dan

Hi everyone,

If you're going on PCC 2.0 and are planning on visiting with someone you've met online, but never in person, this survey is for you!

We still need around 100 people.

Be sure and post up if you want to open this up to people who have met in the past few years and met in person! :thumbsup2

I have visited and vacationed with friends from California and Hawaii... going to their wonderful states, both of whom I met in person on a Mexican Riviera Cruise back in 2005 but first online here on the DIS boards several months before!:dance3:

Funny how after three cruises with DCL these two gals from our first cruise and their families have been the ones we have all kept up with.
Why none of the other "fish extender" and other rituals have bonded us with others from consecutive cruises, I don't know.

But, I hope to once again make contacts/close friends on our next cruise in March 2011.

So, to the OP, let us know if you want to expand your research! I'd love to talk about my DIS friends from just a few years ago to present!

As of now, to focus our research...we're just looking at first-time-meetups. But you never know what the future might bring. ;)
