Anyone Whose Been To RideMakerz!! Please Read!!

Our boys did this too. We had a little sticker shock at the check-out counter too. The prices you see on the car bodies are just for that car with stock options, no remote control, no sounds, lights, etc. Our boys both picked basic cars with stock options but with remote control and they were $60 each.

The cars are big and their boxes are big... too big to fit in our suitcase, so we had them shipped home. To ship both cars UPS ground was only $8, so that wasn't bad. It did take about a week to get them though, so I wish we had done it earlier in the trip so they would have been waiting for us when we got home. We did it near the end of our trip and for days after we got home my boys kept asking, "Mom, where are our cars??"

I agree that it's a fun one-time thing. Our boys had lots of fun doing it, but the cars haven't been played with much at all so I wouldn't fork out the money to do it again.

The cars are the standard size of a RC vehical, and they are LOUD! They have sound effects and music and all sorts of fancy gagets on them... Since we were told of the no driving on disney property rule, we didn't allow them to use them outside the room...

What? You can't drive them on Disney property? Would you please share what they told you? :flower3:

I'm glad I'm reading this thread, it's good to know what a realistic price for them are. I feel a little misled when the man in the store we were in (Myrtle Beach) told us you can get a decent car starting at $25. I guess the word "starting" is the key word.;)

How in the world are they going to sell cars like that knowing that most people there are visitors and staying on Dinsey property. Then tell them they can't play with them on Disney property?! :confused3

I'm finding it hard to believe that many people really listen to that. I'd have to tie my boys hands in double knots and throw the cars in a river for them not to play with them while we are there!

Does anyone know if you can customize your car with anything Disney (mouseears, etc.)? Or are the options the same as what you would find online or at other locations. Thanks!

The cars don't come with batteries, and when I asked to purchase them (with the intent of my boys playing with the cars while we were on vacation) the sales lady asked me if we were staying on Disney property... which we were... she wanted to be up front with me regarding the cost of the batteries and the fact that we might not get much use out of them because of the rule.

When I asked her about the rule, she said that all wheeled 'things' (like heelys, roller skates, kid scooters, skate boards) including RC cars were NOT allowed on WDW property... which once I thought about it made a lot of sense... can you imagine if everyone was wheeling an RC car through the lobby or hallway of a hotel or down the sidewalk at DTD etc etc????

I don't recall any "disney" specific options....if there were any it would have been something small... we went through ALL the options... and I don't remember seeing anything...

Good to know - thanks! I was thinking maybe we would do this for our two sons as a Disney souvenir, but if it is just a customized car I think we will skip it (sounds fun, but I'm not sure I am willing to part with $200 for more remote control cars!) Looks like my boys will have to save up for this one! :)

I will say this, Ridemakerz is not a "Disney" thing... It is not a 'let's go do something Disney-ish and get a cute souvenier". It is a 'build a bear' for cars... and people /kids who LOVE cars, and customizing cars.

My son's first word was car, and he hasn't slowed down since...so this was and is and will be a must do for us - but you really gotta like (or have a kid or person in the family) that LIKES cars... and will spend 50-80 a pop on one!

I just wanted to thank everybody for all the information that I've gathered! I'm sure I'll have a blast on my trip! I really can't wait! Thanks for the coupon! Printed that out! Will be there after the 20th of December so I'll have to use it quickly! As for the fact that you can't play with the cars on the property. Does this even mean inside your own room? I'm not trying to be an annoying guy who wants to race em down hotel hallways or anything, just maybe in my room for a little bit just to get it out of my system! Haha! I don't wanna get booted out for playing with a toy. LOl!! :rotfl2:

We were there (DTD location) on 8/12/2010 and couldn't even get a remote chassis.. they said they were out of stock, but we could pay for it and they would ship it once they came in. So we walked out with a cool looking car that didn't do what we paid for it to do.

It is now 9/12/2010 and haven't heard anything from them, so SO called them up and they tell us they still are not in stock..

But then it seems like people HERE are getting the remote chassis again...
Has anyone rally gotten the remotes in the last few weeks?

I do know that the chasis of the cars come in different sizes, could it be they are just out of the one for your specific car ? When my son and I first got to the area to assemble the young man reached into a box that was labeled to fit my sons car -- only to find out after some drilling had started that it was indeed the wrong chasis. The worker couldn't even get it back off, I was thinking --- " I know he doesn't think we are keeping this!" He then apoligized, went and got a fresh body and made sure the chasis was correct before drilling/ hole stripping started ;)
I would call again and ask if it is a size they plan on getting anytime soon.

Thanks for the info, but it was a simple Ford Mustang body... i would think that after a month they should have received some stock..

My son made one in Myrtle Beach and his car cost us about $35. He made a blue mustang, and the only thing he upgraded was the rims. He chose some skull rims. But everything else was stock and he LOVES it!! It still lights up and plays music. The nice thing about it is, you can always order the extra accessories later from online.

He is 7 and had the best time doing this. The people were very helpful and walked him through it. I took pictures of most of the process. Here are a a few!

The look on your little guys face is priceless ! That is the only reason I also let my son go crazy in this store. My daughter always has "the look" after doing the bibbitti and I think it is great there is something for the cool dudes- that doesn't require hair gel :lmao:
