Our boys did this too. We had a little sticker shock at the check-out counter too.
The prices you see on the car bodies are just for that car with stock options, no remote control, no sounds, lights, etc. Our boys both picked basic cars with stock options but with remote control and they were $60 each.
The cars are big and their boxes are big... too big to fit in our suitcase, so we had them shipped home. To ship both cars UPS ground was only $8, so that wasn't bad. It did take about a week to get them though, so I wish we had done it earlier in the trip so they would have been waiting for us when we got home. We did it near the end of our trip and for days after we got home my boys kept asking, "Mom, where are our cars??"
I agree that it's a fun one-time thing. Our boys had lots of fun doing it, but the cars haven't been played with much at all so I wouldn't fork out the money to do it again.
