My name is Jackie and 9 times out of 10, people ask me how to spell it. That surprises me. I know there are other spellings of it but Jackie is fairly standard. Now 10 out of 10 people can't spell Jacqueline.

My name is Susannah, no middle name, shortened to Susy. No one has ever spelled Susy correctly (except my current boss who also has an unusual spelling) including people I have worked with/for for years. Even MY DAD has misspelled Susy! Even when Susy is on a form in front of their face people misspell Susy.

Thinking Kayla and Kaitlyn were too popular, we named our daughter Kaylin. She likes her name and is the only Kaylin in her school, but EVERYONE calls her Kaitlyn and she has to correct them 100 times.

My son is Logan. He is miraculously the only Logan in first grade at his school, but everywhere we go he's turning when all the other Logans are called.

Okay, this is too funny. I have a stepmom named Suzie (actually Mary Sue but she goes by Suzie) and 2 sisters named Kaylan and Loagan! Loagan's name is actually Savanna Loagan but she has always been known by Loagan which I think suits her well. However, now that she's 12 (yes, there is a HUGE age gap between us) she is really starting to hate the fact she has a boy's name AND a different spelling for it. I honestly don't like the name Savanna though (no offense if you named your kid that but I just don't like it) so I can't picture her as that.

My oldest dd's name is Devon. For a very long time she didn't meet anyone with this name and on the few occasions she did they were boys. She loved that it was different and it helped that she was into the drama/choir/band crowd at school. Now she meets many more people with this name and kind of doesn't like that. She thinks it became more trendy.

There are some names I absolutely hate because I used to teach and now I'm a probation officer. Certain names remind me of some of the lovely juveniles I have had to deal with over the years, and there is no way I could ever think of those names with anything but shivers.

I'm sure Aiden is a great name for some of you, but to me, it's a horrid name because he was a horrid juvenile delinquent. The same with Ashton and a few other names.

(Not all the juveniles I've worked with were/are horrid. Some are actually pretty good kids that just did something stupid. They learn from their mistakes. Some juveniles will never learn.)

I'm a teacher(this is my 11th year) and I have had 5 Ethans that were terrors. I'm sure there are good Ethans out there, but I would never name a child that after my experience

When I was pregnant with dd4, I wanted a name that was not "out there" but was not too common either. I really liked the name Kaylee but it was so common in this area. So we went with Kylie instead. I thought it was pretty but not all that common. I had only ever heard that name one other time in my life. Unfortunately, it seems several other women in my area had the same idea that year as she is now one of 4 Kylie/Kylee/Kyleighs her age in our area (though they won't all go to the same school together at least!). She is the only one that spells it Kylie so far though. Ironically, I don't know a single Kaylee her age. Figures, lol! That being said, I would not change dd's name even if I had known then what I know now. It fits her and I can't imagine her as anything else.

My son is Cohen. His name is definitely unique in our area. We have had mixed reactions to it but I don't regret it a bit. We chose it for sentimental reasons and it fits him perfectly. A lot of people have commented on how much they like it too. And there are only 2 Jewish families with the last name Cohen in our area (which I know through my work) and they were beyond thrilled when I told them that I chose Cohen for my son's first name. We have had several interesting conversations regarding it. So, yes, I love his name and, no, I have absolutely no regrets about choosing it.

I can't believe how big she is! Time just flies, doesn't it? Beautiful kids! Love the name Cohen. Congrats!!

This is sooooo true. I can't tell you how many times DH threw a name out there and I couldn't have it because I associated it too much with a student (even if it was a good student if I really associated the name with a certain person it was not good for me).

I'm glad to see that I am not the only Susie whose name is spelled wrong! It's not an uncommon name, but I always get Suzy, Suzie, Susy, but hardly ever spelled my way! And don't ever call me Sue! Only my dear Nan could get away with that!

I have only seen it one other time- a poster here on the DIS is mom2Micayla.

I'm a unique personality so it probably fits, but if I'd gotten to choose I think I'd have spelled it 'Micaela,' which is from a Spanish novel I had to read in college

We too thought we picked a unique name! My dad informed me it had been in the top 10 since 1995! *chuckle* I wanted to keep with my Irish theme. I have a Joseph, Aiden and then along came little missy pie.

My name is Jacqui - just Jacqui not Jacqueline - and I have spent my whole life having it spelt wrong! I also used to hate not being able to buy anything with my name on so one of my aunt's had a t-shirt made for me with my name on....very kind you'd think............except she'd spelt it JAQUI, missing out the c!!!

I was determined my DD wasn't going to go through similar issues so her name is Gemma. This is not a common name in th UK but you can buy things with her name on. However when we visit the US the name is virtually unknown and we've had all sorts of problems - with the accent complication too - and in her autograph book she has 'Jenna', 'Jema', 'Genna' and 'Janna'. It was only in her Epcot passport that the girl in the UK pavillion (not surprisingly!) and the guy in the Italy pavillion (Gemma is italian for 'precious') who got it right!

I have thought about changing my name to my confirmation name (Columcille), but I think it would be hard to switch after being Jessi for so long. It seems like if you have a weird name you want a common name, but if you have a common name you want a weird name. The grass is always greener I guess.

I know that I want to name my first daughter Ananda Joy (after the dog in A Swiftly Tilting Planet.) I want my kids to all have literary names.

I'm not sure about my kids names being ultra trendy or unusual, but they mean very personal things to us. My daughter, Helena, named after my Grandmother Helen while paying tribute to my husband's Spaniard ancestry. My other daughter, Kristina, because my husband wouldn't let me name her Carolina.

But he is the fairest of all of my children. So even though Angel is a very common name for Spanish males, my son does not LOOK Spanish. So now we have this little white boy named Angel. He is definitely going to learn how to box!!
