Anyone "wear" their TODDLER??

Hi all!

We are DVC members and are fortunate to go to Disney World quite often. My 2 year old has been five times already, with his first trip at 4 months old. Back in the day I would "wear" him in the baby carrier. He loved, I loved it..it worked out great. Our last trip was this past August, he was a high maintenance, just turned 2 year old, who wanted "uppie" the whole trip. He has mellowed in the past few months but I'm still having flashbacks of "Mommy uppie".. in a 45 minute line. Our next trip is 12/26 - 1/2, there should be cooler temps but longer lines. Which brings me to my original question.

Does anyone carry a toddler, 35+ lbs? If so, what product do you use??

We have an ergo carrier that we use from time to time and love it. It's been great and is very comfortable. I believe we have the performance one. I've used it with both with my 1 year old and 3 year old.

We would go hiking in the mountains and used a child backpack, good for a kid up to 50 lbs ( my 8 yr old is just over 50 lbs) anyways we used it for our 2 year old 30 lbs kid and it was comfy but a hassle to get kid in and out. I would just make him use a stroller.

I also have an ergo that I plan on bringing for my son when we go to WDW in Jan, he will turn 3 in March. Sometimes it is so much easier to wear little ones on our back.

I have an Ergo and I'd use that if my kids tolerated being worn. They love it until they can walk and then they are Done.

Kinderpack or a Toddler Tula. They will put him in the correct position. Most kids that still "fit" in the Ergo weight wise as they get older don't have their butt and legs in the correct position.

It is just as user friendly as a beco Gemini, imo..that's all I have to compare it too, but I love how easy the beco is. I would.definitely get a kinderpack when Dd outgrows the beco

I plan on wearing DD (who'll be 16 months) during our trip in January. I have a mei tai that I made that she still fits in comforatbly and she loves to be in it. I like that I can front, back or side carry with it.

I have heard good things about the kinderpack. Do you have a baby wearing group near you? They have lots of different styles of carriers that you can try before you buy one.

I used a mei tai when my son was that age. We hadn't started going to WDW yet, but it was super useful for long haul flights and trips to local festivals, etc. He did not care much for the stroller.

Yes. They are awesome carriers I would make sure when you get it (or whatever you decide on) you practice putting him a back carry as much as possible before your trip just so you can see what works for you.

I have no recommendations on carriers, just wanted to say my son did the same thing around that age. We had a stroller, but he just wanted to be in my arms. I think he was a little overwhelmed with everything. Even during this last trip around age 3.5 he still wanted to be held a lot in lines, so a carrier may very well be a wise investment if you can figure out how to get him in and out of it quickly. For me it would be more hassle than it was worth. Get in line, put on carrier, get kid in carrier, kid wants out of carrier, take kid out, now he wants back in, now he wants back out, now you want to strangle him, but he wants back in, oh shoot line is ending, must get him out but he wants in....Another suggestion, since you are dvc, you will be back, so just don't wait in any long lines.

I haven't read replies so sorry if I repeat any thing. I currently wear my almost 3 yr old and my newborn. Sometimes we tandem wear. The best carriers for a toddler are the tula toddler or kinderpack toddler carriers. Also woven wraps are good and ring slings too. I would go with the other two carriers though since they are buckle carriers and are easy to use for up and downs.

Yes, Zach is very fickle. That's why I'm hesitant to buy a carrier, since they seem to be pretty pricey.
I'd love to not wait in long lines, but that just isn't realistic this time of year, do you know any tricks

We have a closet full of wraps and carriers for our almost 3 yo, but it will be our Kinderpack and mei tai that make the trip with us next week. Kinderpacks are very user friendly come in a wide variety of sizes and you can pretty easily make slip covers to go over them if you want a special Disneyfied carrier. You can buy / sell them used on the babywearing facebook swap page (The Babywearing Swap) which helps with the cost some.
