Yikes a family dog(Dalmation, who is deaf) attacked their baby in the face which required 20-30 stitches and the Dad wants to keep the dog! He's blaming his wife for the attack said she needs to teach the baby how to interact with the dog better.

I **love** my dog but if it attacked and bit my child in the face, I'd have to find him a new home.

This happened to a family we know. They had a small dog that was sleeping and the 4 year old must have scared the dog and it snapped at the baby catching the boys shoulder and part of his cheek!

Poor little guy had to get stitches. They got rid of the dog soon after.

How awful! What did DR Phil say?THi s reminds me of that story that happened last year where the Mom left her 11 yr old son with her 2 known to be vicious pit bulls. They killed the boy while she was gone and she blamed her son!"well he shouldn't have opened the basement door"was what she said ..

Yeah, what did Dr. Phil say?!!? I'm dying to know! If it were me, I'd take the kid and leave DH and dog to themselves. Enough that the dog bit the kid ... I'd hate to think of what could even happen the next time!

This is a paraphrase of what he told them. He prefaced it with saying that he was an avid dog lover and then went onto to say that he didn't feel the dog was evil but that it was a combination of the breed and hearing impairment that made it dangerous for the baby to be around the dog.

He suggested that until the child is old enough to verbally command the dog and establish dominance over him that the dog shouldn't be around the baby. They had been keeping the dog at his parents since the attack and after Dr. Phil spoke the Dad did agree to continue to do so. He also agreed to get a dog run for his parents backyard so that the baby could visit the house safely because up until now the Mom wouldn't allow the baby over to their home.

Next up is a women who's refusing to get off the cruise ship during an upcoming vacation because she's afraid she'll be abucted into sex slavery. She's also constantly afraid she'll be attacked, she refuses to be alone-ever. Poor girl, I hope he helps her.

This was a rerun. The same show was on about a week ago. If I remeber right he said that if the guy thought he should keep the dog it should be kept away from the daughter. He felt that the dog was not a mean dog, that the girl just startled the dog because he was sleeping and being death did not hear the girl when she tried to pet it and the fact that it was a dalmation it was quicker to snap. Dr Phil said since the girl was young and was likely to want to climb on the dog, etc. that the dog should not be around the girl. The wife and husband agreed that the dog could stay outside and that they would but the dog in a cage when the girl wanted to go outside and play.

Agreed. And if I couldn't find a new home, said dog would be off to dog heaven.

I think the dog and the guy gotta go....Hello! Your childd is attacked and all you are concerned about is the dog? Why do people like this even have children? Shows more concern about the dog than the child. too sad!

If it were me, the dog would have to go..

I remember years back about someone who almost died while trying to rescue his pet from a fire. On the local radio talk show a caller called in and said he totally understood about that man rescuing his pet. The caller went on to say that he loved his dog and if there was ever a fire he would rescue his dog before his wife  :sad2:

Poor thing... I would have to teach the Dad where the front door was becasue his rear would be out it.

Our dog snapped at my son's face shortly before my second son was born. The dog was gone shortly after that (and we had him for 7 years before that!)
