Five Things Contestants Need to Know to Woo Emily Maynard
By Monica Rizzo

Before long, Emily Maynard will have a new crop of hopeful guys vying for her affection on the new season of The Bachelorette.

So what's the way to Maynard's heart? Here are five things her prospective suitors need to know about the 25-year-old single mom.

1. Her Daughter Comes First
Maynard and her 6-year-old, Ricki, are incredibly close. When Maynard left town to film The Bachelor with Texas bar owner Brad Womack, she vowed she'd never leave her daughter for such a long period of time again. That's why producers agreed to film a large portion of her upcoming season of The Bachelorette in her hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. Guys had better know how to charm Ricki if they expect to have a chance with Maynard.

2. She's Loved and Lost Before
At 19, Maynard experienced a series of dramatic highs and lows. She became engaged to NASCAR driver Ricky Hendrick, who then died in a plane crash in October 2004. Just days after Ricky's death, Maynard learned she was pregnant. She named their only child after her late fiancé. Maynard remains very close with Hendrick's parents and still wears the Cartier bracelet Hendrick gave her as a symbol of the love they shared.

3. Brad's Not Out of Her Life
Even though they called off their engagement last June, Maynard and Womack are still friendly. Womack "taught me that I have it in me to love someone again," Maynard told PEOPLE. "I think he's always going to be a part of my life."

4. Stability and Patience Are Key
Maynard has never had trouble finding a date – it's finding someone she wants to keep dating that's been the challenge. Because she places motherhood first, "I need stability," Maynard says, noting that it's difficult for many men to grasp that she can't just go out on a date or skip town for the weekend on a moment's notice. "A lot of times in Charlotte I would go out with guys, and most guys knew my story." Still, she adds, "It's just a lot to handle. And with a young child, you know, it's a lot to ask of guys."

5. Must Love Cats
After finishing up on The Bachelor, Womack gave Maynard and Ricki a furry little kitten that has since become the love of little Ricki's life. So gentlemen, take note: If you're allergic to cats, you'd better bring a hefty supply of allergy medication, because nothing is going to break up this family unit. MEOW.

What I find hilarious is that we're spending more time discussing the upcoming Bachelorette than the current Bachelor, Ben. He's soooo dull that we seem more interested in Emily who isn't even on tv yet.:lmao: That says something, doesn't it? ABC, please find more interesting bachelors, please.:thumbsup2

So Emily is now going to let Ricki meet the guys? :confused3 When she was on with Brad, she almost didn't want him to meet her. He had to convince her that she could introduce him as a "friend." Emily wasn't used to introducing her to men.

Now, will she really let Ricki meet the final 4 or 2?

Maybe she now has to do damage control? :scratchin Show Ricki that not all men are raging maniacs like Brad. :furious:

Aren't Cartier bracelets about the same price a a house? What guy has the money to compete with that and the pedestal she put her deceased BF on? :confused3

3. Brad's Not Out of Her Life
Even though they called off their engagement last June, Maynard and Womack are still friendly. Womack "taught me that I have it in me to love someone again," Maynard told PEOPLE. "I think he's always going to be a part of my life."

. . . So, does this mean he's going to make a surprise visit to see her, halfway through the show? :rolleyes1

Her epic tale of heartbreak & love lost.

I really wonder what the Hendricks think of her being on the show TWICE? :scratchin If she acts like a sl** on the show, kissing every guy, having overnite dates with 2 of them back to back, will they sue for custody of their granddaughter saying Emily has become a bad influence?

I don't know how she's going to handle this. I do remembe,r like you said, she was really hesitant to let Brad meet her. And now the shoes on the other foot and SHE will be the one choosing guys so I'd assume she has to let some of them meet her.

My guess is that she'll only let the final two meet her daughter. The final four is all about their hometown dates and the final three is the skanky fantasy suite card scenario. So I'd think she'd wait till she's more narrowed down to only two men before she confuses, er I mean, let's her daughter see the men her mom is currently dating.

Maybe she now has to do damage control? :scratchin Show Ricki that not all men are raging maniacs like Brad. :furious:

Maybe. Who knows what Ricki thought of Brad.:confused3

Aren't Cartier bracelets about the same price a a house? What guy has the money to compete with that and the pedestal she put her deceased BF on? :confused3

I know! Can you imagine? That's a lot to compete with and I'd think would discourage some of them, especially if they don't have high income jobs. We'll see...

. . . So, does this mean he's going to make a surprise visit to see her, halfway through the show? :rolleyes1

MaryAnnDVC said that already! I wouldn't put it past ABC to do so. Let's just hope he brings his therapist so he can talk Brad through how he feels, you know, since Brad can't seem to figure it out on his own without him.:rolleyes1

Her epic tale of heartbreak & love lost.

It really is a sad story. I hope she's ready for this. Given the Bachelor's track record, only two have married. But like someone said, maybe she'll be like Trista and find her Ryan? Let's hope so.

I really wonder what the Hendricks think of her being on the show TWICE? :scratchin If she acts like a sl** on the show, kissing every guy, having overnite dates with 2 of them back to back, will they sue for custody of their granddaughter saying Emily has become a bad influence?

Nah, I think Emily has more class than that. Plus, from the article, it seems that most of the filming will be in her hometown area. I'm sure she'll keep that in mind when she's contemplating a hot tub romance.;)

Who's Ben?

I don't know? Last I heard, he owns some vineyard and flat irons his hair.

I know! Can you imagine? That's a lot to compete with and I'd think would discourage some of them, especially if they don't have high income jobs. We'll see...

I used to work for one of the most high end caterers here. The clientele was the uber-rich, Trump, the Rockefellers, the Astors & the Gettys, the rich housewives of NYC, some celebrities, etc.

Emily is in a weird monetary position. Like she wouldn't really fit in with any of these people. She has money, but through her DD. She doesn't look the type to live for her money, but certainly lives in a style she is very accustomed to because it's been provided. The show had said she coordinated events at a children's hospital. Whether she did that as a volunteer or had an actual job, we don't know.

So she doesn't fit into the set of people who worked for their wealth & earned it. She didn't quite marry into, where she'd be hobnobing with Ricky's crowd, as his wife, had he still been alive. She didn't really inherit it where the money is really hers, as it's via her DD. Plus, she seems to have lives such a sheltered life after Ricky's accident.

I can see how she'd be having a problem finding a guy who'd fit into her life and lifestyle when she doesn't quite fit into certain slots of society, herself.

MaryAnnDVC said that already! I wouldn't put it past ABC to do so. Let's just hope he brings his therapist so he can talk Brad through how he feels, you know, since Brad can't seem to figure it out on his own without him.:rolleyes1

Maybe they will get Emily her own therapist!

Ladies and gentelmen, we have our next bachelorette...Robinrs!:woohoo: :thumbsup2

Honestly, I think Emily could well without Brad too.:thumbsup2

You're not interested in being a cougar & breaking in the young puppies?

Emily bores me to tears, as did Ashley and now Ben. And if they really do bring Bentley back I might have to stop watching in protest. Put these has-beens on the Bachelor Pad and give us new blood ABC!
