Anyone waiting to buy into Hawaii?

I signed my add-on contract for BLT today and was more than a little surprised to see read this language in the Purchase Agreement (in bold):

"Disney's resort on the island of Oahu, Hawaii is only a possible component site which may never be added to the Disney Vacation Club Multi-Site timeshare plan. Do not purchase an interest in a Disney Vacation Club Rresort in reliance upon the addition of this component site."

If I'm reading that language right, it means Disney may open a DVC resort in Hawaii, but not allow owners at other DVC resorts to use their points at the resort in Hawaii. That's not good--I would at least like to have that option!!!

I believe this is written into every contract when another resort is under construction. They are just covering themselves in case something happens and that resort is never complete or made into a DVC property. I wouldn't read too much into that.

Dying to visit it when it's done, but I doubt I can wait that long to buy more points. :lmao:

I've never been further west than CO. My first goal is to get over to see several areas of the west coast, then I'll start thinking HI. ;)

Thank you--I did not know that.

Hey Elk Grove friend! I think DVC members on the east coast aren't going to buy into Hawaii because of the long flight. However, for the west coasters, the flight is about 4 or 5 hours which is about the same or less as going to Florida. I imagine that with the economy and more DVCers on the east coast, they will mostly be selling to non DVC members. I could be wrong, but I don't see most DVC members adding on to Hawaii. But for me in CA, it might be a great thing!!

Hey! I'm in Elk Grove. I thought I was the only one. I am waiting for Hawaii to become available. We'd love a little bit of an option outside of WDW :)

While we LOVE Hawaii and go every 5 years it's likely won't BUY there but probably will try to book there at our 7 month window for a few nights. Since we only go once every 5 years if we DID buy points there we'd only buy enough to bank & borrow for a few nights at a time and would use the points somewhere else for 2 years.

It's a tough call. Oahu is not our island of choice - we don't usually stay more than 3 nights there. We prefer to spend the majority of our time on Maui. Also, as others have pointed out, it will probably cost a fortune per point and the point charts will probably be very point intensive and it will have high dues. If they make the points TOO HIGH I know we can stay in Waikiki on cash for less. I don't need to stay on Oahu so bad that I'm taken to the cleaners to do it. I am afraid it will most likely be too rich for my wallet when I know I book cheaper thru Costco Travel or something.

I won't say for sure that we WON'T but can't make an informed decision yet without pricing & point charts. If we could get by with a 25 point add-on. :confused3 Maybe. Just depends on the bottom line...I have my doubts tho that we'll be able to get a studio for 25 points a night. :confused3

Not the only one in Elk Grove! It sounds like I am the only one interested in Hawaii but I will have to look at the points chart, pick up my lower jaw and then make a decision!

I'm thinking Hawaii! For us on the west coast, it's actually even a little shorter to go to Hawaii. Certainly will cost less than our WDW trips! We love Hawaii, and the location on Oahu looks good (even though the Big Island is our favorite island). MF will be an issue, perhaps. WDW is too expensive for an every year trip for us.

Hoping there will be great incentives when we are on our November 2010 cruise for Ko'Olina. :wizard:

We would definitely like to buy into the Hawaii property. We plan on buying enough points to bank/borrow, go every 3rd year and stay a week. We figure it's something we will more likely use and enjoy as our kids get older and older and maybe grow tired of WDW (banish the thought!)

I don't know. Hawaii is such a long and expensive flight away! I'd love to go to the resort when it opens though. If I do add on in the future (which I'll have to get future DH to agree on), I'd most likely wait for Polynesian villas!

Nope after seeing photos of the area, not interested in the location.

For one brief moment, yes we were. However, we'd rather buy where we will primarily stay (as they always advise). We'll take our chances at seven months.

If I had to guess, I would figure that the west coast U.S. and Canadian DVC members would be more likely to purchase Hawaii points.

I talked with several DVC people about Hawaii on our recent trip to WDW.
The general thoughts were they planned to market this property heavily in Asia. In turn this will also bring more people from that part of the world to WDW.

No to Hawaii, (husband is 6'10" and could never make it on the plane ride) but definitely considering Washington D.C. My cousin lives outside of D.C and we have already spent 3-4 thousand dollars(total during the past 5 years) on staying down there once a year at a suite. The site intrigues me and we will see what happens.
