Anyone visit DL in the late 1980's?

I was in 7th grade when Star Tours opened so I was pretty young But if I remember there were signs up stating something to the effect of "The wait from this point on is 3 hours," and the line was past that sign.

I know we waited at least 2 hours but not sure if it was really 3 whole hours.

Yep, I was there with a huge group of friends the weekend Star Tours opened and the wait was pretty insane. I think our group waited about two hours but I know some of the rest of the group was there for three or more hours. I would NEVER do that now!!

That's funny you mention that. We have gotten so spoiled by fastpass that we simply WILL not wait in a standby line unless it is under 30 mins. I have seen waits as long as 2 hours or more even now. I told my mom just this past week when we were there "remember when we didn't know any better and we HAD to wait in line". I mean back then there was no choice. You just did it! I don't really remember waiting more than an hour or so but I might have. My first trip to Disney was in 78 I think or maybe 76 but I did go in the late 70's and 80's (that was when I was a teen and early 20's). Boy do I remember long waits and to be honest I don't even like going to other parks anymore cuz I am so spoiled by fast pass. And sorry but I am not "paying" for the prviliege either! LOL (ie Universal, Six Flags etc)

I'm so spoiled too. We waited over 20 minutes for something twice all trip and not even so much as 30 ever. Both times were due to ride closures that we didn't know about and a sign that said 5 when it wasn't 5. Otherwise, we didn't wait over 15 minutes for a single ride. Spoiled Rotten. Love Fast Pass. We had a pretty good week. The longest stand by wait we saw posted was 70 on Splash, and 70 on GRR. That's not to bad for summer. But I won't even wait in those now. Heck. I treat Indy as a non-fast pass ride and go early because I won't wait 30 minutes down beyond the merge point. Same goes for Autopia :rotfl2:

HEHE. I looked at Universal. $61. FOTL $40 more. That's $101. Sorry but I'll pay $10 and take an extra day at Disney.

I don't remember the 3 hour lines in the 80s... I remember them in 2006! We went the day POTC opened after it's recent refurb. The line wound around Adventureland, through the hub, and down mainstreet to where they put the massive Christmas tree. And this was first thing in the morning (just the EE people in the park ahead of us). CMs said the line was 3+ hours long at that point. We waited until lunchtime and got in line over by the Golden Horseshoe for 90 minute wait in line. Yes... even the kids thought it was worth it.
