Looking into buying 240 points at Bay Lake Tower. Besides not being able to use my points at non dvc hotels in disney and the cruise line what are other negatives I may be missing. Can I get the park discounts? Can I use the observation deck in the hotel? Anyone using these type points currently?

How much does it cost me to move my home resort to another disney resort? Is there an international fee?

If you spend even a few minutes reading threads in this forum, you should quickly determine that most posters recommend buying resale, not direct from DVC, except in a few circumstances. I expect the majority of posters here own at least one resale contract, so yes, many people "use these type points currently." The current difference between direct and resale is that resale points cannot be used for the Disney Concierge Collection, Adventures by Disney, or the Disney Cruise Line. There is no guarantee that (i) direct DVC points will continue to be usable for these options or (ii) additional restrictions will not be added to resale points in the future.

You cannot move your home resort, other than by selling your first contract and purchasing a second one at the new resort. I'm not sure what you mean by an international fee, so most likely the answer to that question is "No".

look at the point costs required to trade out for cruises and wdw hotels before you decide that it's a negative.

resale owners currently get the same AP discount and access to the BLT observation deck as direct purchasers.

perks like that can change at any time, and can change for both resale and direct purchasers. none of the perks are guaranteed for anyone.

DVC contracts represent an interest in real estate...so it's like buying a house and deciding you'd rather live in the house across the street. it would be complicated and there are costs associated with the change (you'd have to sell what you have and buy something else).

Are you asking if there's a charge to book at another DVC resort that is not your home? If so, no, there is not. You must wait until 7 months from check in to try and do that though.

The resale restrictions didn't exist until recently so this proves that Disney can and will change the rules, policies, and perks as they see fit to benefit Disney.

Don't buy assuming that what you get today will be available tomorrow. The only guarantee is being able to stay in a room at your home resort.

The only contract I have and use is a resale contract. I have been an owner since 2003. I have been very pleased with my purchase. I have successfully used my points for reservations at other WDW resorts than my OKW home and I traded for a week in Hawaii several years ago before DVC built a resort on Oahu.

As others have said, the opportunity to stay at resorts other than your home resort may go away, so be sure, if that became your only option, you would be happy.

Yes, as long as there is availability at 7 months from check in date (non home resort booking window.)
