Hi! Bought two way radios yesterday - thought good idea if family decides to split up in parks - but reading instructions they work only in europe! ah Anyone used them out there? Its got 8 km distance and 300 channels if that makes a difference. Thanks for your help!! :listen:

They will work in the US but they work on a wavelength that isn't legal out there - would you be caught using one? :confused3

Likewise, the US walkie talkies are illegal over here.

Also, the 8km is maximum range in perfect conditions. We have a 5km set - 2 streets away (3 rows of houses) and the signal starts to break up. As a result, ours got confined to the "useless" :lmao: box (along with the toastie machine and footspa!). They're not as bad in the parks due to the lack of brick built buildings, and the advantage you will have, being British there will be far less people using the wavelength.

I'm glad this has come up, i have been thinking about these, would you suggest then buying them out there to use and then and of course not using them back here.

we bought ours in walmart in august. 2 for $15. infact we have always used walkie talkies but our last set had had it so we bought new ones.as said before uk ones work on a different wavelengh, same if you use the american ones here. its just as well to buy them in america.

we also got ours in walmart very good price and they worked really well. So well in fact that DH dropped me and the kids in walmart oneday while he went to watch football in the pub and we were able to keep in contact.

didn't spend much on them i think $15-$20.

As said befor the wave lengths of European ones can affect the channel the emergency services use the US (or so I was told) so you would have to buy out there.. defo illegal anyway.

I got some out there (not cheap) with lots of channels and sub codes and found them all but useless in the parks..
didn't get many other people coming over our channel but couldn't get each other either (unless we were all but a stones throw away)

we bought some pay as you go mobiles and now use them to send text messages .. now these we found great as you don't even have to be in the same park :) and if switched off for shows/rides etc .. you recieve your message when you switch back on :) I personally would go down this route .. they are pretty cheap in walmart etc

We are also going to buy a set of these but we will get them out there. They will probally be cheaper, you know there going to work and if they don't you can take them back.
