Anyone used the animated/electronic Mickeys in the park?

In the Disney magazine, there was something about renting a Mickey doll that has a computer chip inside. Then when Mickey gets to certain spots in the parks, he pipes up with interesting information, he tells jokes in lines, etc. etc. Has anyone used it? Did you end up purchasing it afterwards? This seems like such a cool thing to have in the park- kind of like your own personal tour guide. I also read you can have Mickey "go to sleep" if he starts to annoy you and becomes a bit too much like Cliff Clavin ala Cheers. Anyone tried it?

You are describing a Pal Mickey. Yes, I've tried it. I was able to use one for one day for free as a DVC member. I had the option of purchasing it, which I chose not to do.

For an adult with no children, Pal Mickey became more of a nuisance than a pleasure. It is unweildly to use the clip that affixes itself to your clothing or backpack strap. You need to hold it quite close to your ear to hear it in the parks or when in a group of more than a few people.

If it does not synchronize properly when entering the park, it will not provide timely or accurate information. The one I had didn't synch properly at the MK. It told me about the afternoon parade (The parade is about to begin in 15 minues) after I had left the park and returned to the room! Also, it didn't have much information to share in the MK.

I didn't have that problem in the other parks, just the MK. I did take it to each park for the day I had it to see the differences between the four.

It needs to be protected from becoming wet. Hello? Florida? Summer? Rain! Pal Mickey had to be stuffed into a waterproof bag and into a backpack during the rain. Not much use there.

I thought the jokes were cute, although more than a little corny and the games were ok, but boring after a short time.

All in all, I didn't find it useful or fun enough to purchase.

I'd recommend renting one and using it before you decide.

We rented a Pal Mickey last week when we were at Disney. The map for each park lists the locations where you can rent it, and if you do have problems you can just stop by one of these locations.

My kids loved it, and I thought it was really neat. We had it in Epcot, and it gave information as we entered each area, and it even hinted that there was a hidden Mickey in the miniature train area in Germany. "Minnie says that there's a hidden Mickey in this garden, but I never can find it!" We had fun finding it.

Unfortunately, we think that DD left Pal Mickey on the bus to our resort, because after coming back to POR for a rest in the middle of the day, we couldn't find it when we got ready to head back. My two DSs were not very happy with their sister!!!

So the downside was that my credit card was charged $60 since I failed to return Mickey! (The rental charge is $8 a day.)

If you do rent Mickey, don't lose him! :D

I am VERY interested how DVC members can get this for free.

Thanks.

I bought mine and loved it me and my fiance had so much fun with it and everyone kept stoping us asking us about it. Im glad I bought it and will use it again when we go back on our honeymoon in October. So to me it was worth it and everyone at work wants one now after I showed them mine.

I bought Pal Mickey and have used him on two trips. I love this little guy. True you have to hold him to your ear to be able to hear him, but he does have a repeat feature if you miss his message. And his jokes are very corny!!! I kinda liked giving him a hug in order to hear him. Lots of people asked me questions including CM's. Everyone wanted to hear him "work".

He looks like a regular stuff toy. People probably thought a 46 yr old grandma shouldn't be walking through the parks hugging her Mickey doll!! LOL!! But who cares. I will shout it out loud, "I LOVE MICKEY!!!"

We had a great time with Pal Mickey in Oct.My step son,Jonathan, wasn't able to come with us that trip so my son,Erich, had his PM to keep him company.Erich really enjoyed having him tell corny jokes and things about attractions.

If you follow this link it has a picture of Pal Mickey and some more info about him.http://allearsnet.com/tp/pal.htm
