Hi
After looking on the Martins Money website these came out top with the best exchange rate.

We want to get £2000 but I am a bit frightened of using a company not heard of in todays state of play.

Not sure if you are protected when purchasing currencey?

We dont go until Mid July - should I get some now and some later

What would you do?

Thanks for your help

Hi Helen, not used this company, a few reviews here

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=937717

seems you have to send photo copies of various documents before they complete your order, I've ordered over the phone before, can't remember which company it was with, it was some time ago, but I would recommend doing your homework before parting with your holiday cash.

If you are worried about it all try ringing Travelex and ask if they will price match and collect from the local airport.

I've used them a couple of times and had fantastic service. Never had to send any details to them so maybe thats a new thing. (used them last december)

I placed the order online, they called me to confirm details and tell me where to transfer the money.

I transfered the money and the day after they received it i got my travellers cheques. The rate had improved slightly after I placed the order and they even gave me the better rate.

Quite a lot of people on thedibb have used them.

Have you thought about the fairfx card? A pre paid credit card with very good rates. They're owned by a well known bank who are not in financial trouble lol. Lots of us on here have them and hughly recommend them.

Their rate today is 1.5825

I can recommend Thomas Exchange as I have used them previously. I transferred the money to them and within a couple of days the travel money arrived delivered to my door by registered mail. Great service, always the best rates and an easy transaction.

I used Thomas exchange a bunch of times and I recommened them! :thumbsup2 Its really simple to do and the money comes with the post man two days later!

Hi thanks for the replies -

Just wondering I dont have access to a fax do you have to send copies of passport to the Thomas Exhange uk? Their rate today is $1.61:thumbsup2

Just wondering whether it would be easier to get travelex and then claim back the price match:confused3

Also i read that certain debit cards get charged a fee with it being a money transaction -does anyone have any ideas?

Withregards to the travelx card- we like to have the cheqs infront of us to help us budget each day. We are already taking a PO credit card and dont really want another card.

Thanks:confused3

The Fairfx card charges $2 for a cash transaction. I know what you mean about the travellers cheques - I like to see my money :lmao: but we applied for Fairfx cards last night because you cant seem to beat their rate :goodvibes

Their rate is 1.6250 today and if you go through www.opodo.co.uk you can get the card free by loading $20 on it
