Anyone used Amazon.com's registry?

I was just wondering if anyone here has used amazon.com's wedding registry? I'm looking for someplace with electronics and was going to use Target but after a friend got married and had not one good thing (or even decent thing) to say about Target's registry we changed our mind. And she is the most easy-going non-high maintenance person you'll meet so when she had complaints we listened. So now I'm looking at amazon.com but wanted to know if anyone else had used it and what they thought of it. Thanks for all your help!

I've heard a lot of awful things about Target's gift registry too! The only person I know of who had an Amazon registry said she didn't get a lot of stuff off it, and that she thinks people preferred to get her traditional gifts at traditional places. But I bet if you put the word (on the downlow) that what you really wanted was stuff from Amazon, people would go for it!

A little OT, but can someone give me some insight as to what is bad about Target's gift registry? I haven't heard anything.

I've heard horror stories about the customer service - lots of hassles with returns.

Starting Aug. 8, 2007, you have to have a receipt to return anything, even if it's on your registry. If you get multiples of something on your list, they only let you return one and you're stuck with the others. If someone buys you something that's not on your registry, you can't return it without a receipt.

Also, if an item has gone on sale since it was purchased, they will only give you the sale price back as a credit. Plus, they only give credit, whereas Bed, Bath & Beyond will give you cash for anything under $100, even if you don't have a receipt!

We're signed up for both Amazon and Target. We love lots of DVDs, books, electronies, so Amazon was the perfect choice for us. Also, because we have a lot of family who don't live in the same city as us and can just ship the gifts to us.

Target is VERY unorganized. They never seem to have an answer for us when we go in. It's a lot easier to just do everything online.

We also found that Bed Bath and Beyond was phenomenal. The women who helped us spent about two hours pampering us in the store getting us water, food, etc. They even helped us set up a pretend table to look at our settings, linens, glassware. It was great!

Just think about your guests who're coming. Some will want to go to physical stores to see items. Others just want to go online. Do a little of both and think about what your tastes are like as a couple. Just enjoy!!

I'm not sure about the Amazon.com wedding registry, but my family has done the Amazon Wish Lists for years. It makes it so easy (if people are Internet savvy that is!) to select an item, purchase and have it sent directly to the recipient. We've never had any problems with our Wish Lists, so I hope the same is true for the wedding registry. We don't need a lot of household items (linens, kitchen items, etc.) since we've lived together for 5 years, but we do need electronics since our's are becoming outdated. We will definitely have an Amazon.com registry.

I'm glad amazon is decent. Target has the worst return policy ever. Not only do you have to have the receipt and then get the lowest price they have sold it for in the past 90 days but you can only return 2 items per person per year! That's it! It's not at all consumer-friendly! We're going with Bed Bath & Beyond for linens, Michael C. Fina for china, Williams-Sonoma for kitchen gadgets, Crate & Barrel for all sorts of stuff, and then hopefully now amazon for electronics. And, of course, the Disney Honeymoon Registry! I wish Best Buy had a registry. I live in that store. I'm a movie fanatic and fiance is a techno-junkie so that's our candy store. That and Ikea but they don't have a registry either! We've both been out on our own so we don't need a lot just a little from here and a little from there.

I used their wedding registry in '03, and it was fine. They take customer privacy VERY seriously, so sometimes issues can (or could back then) crop up if there was a problem, but I'm sure in the intervening years they've figured that out a bit better.

I was actually working there when they were coming up with it, and I was newly engaged, and tried REALLY hard to be a part of the team, but they never took my advice, silly people.

The things we got from the registry arrived just fine and with no problems, so that was good.

The ONE thing that I would do, however, with gifts like that. Especially with electronic gifts, like kitchen appliances and such is to NOT stand on ceremony of waiting until after the wedding to use them, b/c if you do, you might be past the return period, just in case it arrives damaged in some way. So definitely break those things out of their boxes and plug them in, to make sure all is well, so you're not stuck with a useless piece of plastic/metal after your wedding.

That goes for ALL electronic gifts, actually...

Thanks for all the info about the Target registry. Funny how we asked most of those questions and we were given the wrong answers. Looks like I might be talking DF into registering at Bed Bath & Beyond instead. We really don't need that much stuff seeing as how we already live together. We're hoping most people just gift to our Disney Honeymoon Registry. But we need a traditional gift registry just in case. Thanks everyone.
