Anyone use TruGreen ChemLawn?

WOW, I am so glad someone started this thread! We've had ChemLawn for about 4 years now and I am soooooooo sick of them badgering us about additional treatments. I'm sorry that a lot of us have had to deal with their irritating phone calls but I sure am happy that it's not just me!
We are looking into another company for next year. Not sure what's available but anything has to be better than ChemLawn.

I'll second that motion. :)

I had them for several years in Kansas City, then they started raising prices and I didn't think what they were doing was sufficient to keep up with the weeds. We switched to another smaller service and liked it much better.

FWIW if you're getting a lawn care service I think I'd look into a local company before going to a chain.

That's the best advice. Ask around among neighbors, stop when you see a landscaper working, inquire at you local 'seed & feed' store. I always try to support the local businesses. They know the area and usually cost the same or less.

You can easily get them to "not call you," by telling them to put you on the "non soliciting list."

uhhhhhhh NO! We tried. And we asked that they wouldn't call us so much. They kept calling, and calling, and drove us crazy.

Don't you suppose it's different from state to state? Or is it run by one main corporate office? I have no idea. I never looked into it. We ended up going with a local company who did a great job. Now my DDDDDDDH does our lawn and it looks fabulous!

We had them for two years. We finally fired them. They drove US CRAZY!

We pre-paid for the whole season so we wouldn't have to mess with invoices, etc. And they CALLED us several times weekly. I kid you not. They constantly harassed us about this and that and the other. Oh, they heard it's going to be a bad year for this and that and couldn't they sell us something "extra" and no, they didn't know that we needed it, on and on. Finally, DH asked them to QUIT calling. They ALWAYS called during dinner time and when we didn't return the call, they'd call back several times a day until they reached us. Even after he asked them to quit calling or we would cancel their service, they continued to call. I would never recommend them to anyone.

I agree with everything you said! We had them for two years also and your story is our story.

This year we put in a pool and the construction tore up a sizable portion of the lawn. We explained to TruGreen that we didn't need or want any extra services because we have major landscaping to do, and we DO NOT want to renew their service. They keep calling and just carry on asking if we want this or that done. NO, NO, and oh yeah, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, we really didn't see any difference between our lawn and a lawn that wasn't done by them.

I was wondering that myself. Maybe it's a franchise? After all, they seem to be charging wildly different amounts judging by what I'm seeing in this thread. If it were a corporate office, I wouldn't think they'd be allowed to go beyond the corporate charging guidelines (like I said, we're getting the service for $35/session right now, and we've got a huge yard--they were originally charging us over $55. I'd think they're losing money on us).

We use them and love the results. First year we had the problem with hounding, but then DH told them what services we wanted and told them not to ever call offering other services. They don't call anymore, and our yard looks great. You can tell which yards on our street are treated by them, because all the others have horrible brown-patch.

I recently used them to aerate my lawn. They quoted me a price for $55 for the front(compared to $69 from Scott's) and I asked how much more for the whole yard & was quoted at $60 for everything. I can't rent the equipment & do it myself for that price.. When they came out & did it they said I got a great deal. Meanwhile Scotts keeps calling & leaving messages on my machine..already told them no.. :confused3 ..

I do use them for the do-it-yourself program where you buy the bags from them & they deliver them to your house & the bag tells when you need to apply....

We too had the experience of being hounded by TruGreen. Actually, they were hounding us to start service with them even after we had signed up with them a couple of years back. Their interoffice communications were so bad that they didnt already see that we were existing customers. During all of this hounding, and several bedtime calls from them badgering us, they didnt come out to do our initial service. So, we fired them before they even could do one service. It was another couple of weeks after that until their calls stopped, and that wasn't until we too threatened to file a complaint with the BBB.

We used Lawn Doctor two years ago, and then took the year off last year and did the work ourselves, but went back to Lawn Doctor this year in a simple effort to let someone else do the work. We have been quite pleased with them - I know there are better products out there from some of the privately owned companies around here, but they are way more expensive. Our lawn does look great, a lot of which I'm sure is because we have an irrigation system and our neighbors don't. If we could only get our one neighbor who hasn't ever done any lawn treatments on his property since he moved in 4 years ago (must think 100% crabgrass is in style) to sign up!
