Anyone use this Nikon lens?

You have the 17-50/2.8? That's an APS-C lens, it doesn't fully work on the D700...

I have a Nikon D5000 DX camera and I use the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR for traveling. It is a heavy lens, but I have been very happy with the versatility of it. I got great wildlife shots in Alaska and amazing landscape shots in Norway.

What about the D7000, that is what I really have. Let off a zero

ok... the 28-300 is a full frame lens. It will work on the d7000, but with equivalent of 42mm-450mm. So you are completely losing wide angle shots. The 18-300 would give you wide through telephoto.

Just remember these are "compromise" lenses. For the convenience of all-in-one, you are taking on extra weight and losing significant image quality. You'd get much better image quality using your 17-50 for wide shots, and a good 70-300 for your telephoto needs.

I understand it is a compromise, but what I am looking for is a very good all in one that has the extra reach for sporting events with the kids as well as just general photos. I also have the 18-105 Nikon lens that I can use when I know there is not going to be any really far off shots needed. I was mainly looking at this one as a general vacation lens and outdoors. For indoors and close up I will definitely use either the Sigma 17-50 or the 18-105 or a prime lens.

Does anyone have photos taken with this lens at the closest and longest zoom points?

Do you have some photos you would be willing to share? This lens also interests me.

I use this Sigma 18-250 as my walk around lens on my D5200. Its compact, light, and a good value. These are all untouched.
