We are trying to figure out what to do/get for my 4 year old son. He hasn't ridden in a regular stroller in quite awhile and usually uses a wagon at most parks. Since Disney does not allow wagons, I need to figure out what to get him for this trip.

Here is a little background. He has a blood disorder that causes him to get very tired at times - much more so than a competely healthy child. We must have something to put him in for the parks. I looked at renting a stroller inside but they are so expensive and it would be time consuming for us to check them in and out. Also, we would have to carry him in and out of the parks which would make us very tired! I don't want to rent a stroller from an outside company. He weighs in at around 39 lbs. and is almost 42 inches tall.

Has anyone used the McFarlen Volo Stroller or have a recommendation for a stroller that goes to 55 lbs? Will a child his size be able to ride in this stroller without dragging his feet?

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Post #2 deals with mobility/stamina issues and has a list of locations for rentals of wheelchairs (including pediatric) as well as Special Needs Strollers that can go up to about a hundred pounds. The companies listed there have consistently given good service at reasonable prices.

my son was a big boy at that age and we had a volo just for disney. At the time the entire seat was mesh (don't know if that's still the case) but it kept him nice and cool. plus, it folded up easily with one foot and had a shoulder carry strap which was nice for getting on and off the bus. We really appreciated having it during the walk back out of the park at the end of the night adn to the bus and then back to the hotel. It was a life saver. Also was great in the airport. That was close to 7/8 years ago and that stroller is still in service. :)

(oh plus the handles were a bit taller than others and I"m fairly tall so I found most other umbrella strollers far too short for me)

We have had 3 volo strollers. We bought them for going to disney because they have a high weight limit. They are easy to put up and down and the handles are longer than most strollers. We got the strollers at babys r us for 99 dollars and that was really worth it because of the high price of renting a stroller at Disney. It is very hard for most kids to keep up at disney world no matter the age so it is good to have a stroller that a child can rest in for a while, while we are wandering thru the parks.

Thank you all. I think I will get this stroller for the trip. Albee baby online has it for $109 with free shipping. That will save us some money and a lot of time in the parks.

Enjoy your new stroller. We love our Mac. Also highly recommend the Ray Shade, which will give you much better sun coverage that the one that comes on the Volo.

If you look at Singledads pretrip report he just got the same stroller for his DD. She around the same hight as your DS.

My next door neighboor here just bought the same one as Singledad has and her son is a few inches taller(than both your DS and Singledads DD) and still fits.I helped her make an extention to have the shade sit higher, since he sits tall.

That makes me feel much better. I have been stressing out about this issue...worse than my stress of trying to find a last minute Chef Mickey's reservation. ;)

I have this stroller for my 2 year old and my now 6 year old will sometimes crawl in it as well. He is 50 pounds and about 45 inches and it holds him pretty well. He fits fine actually, but I do see it start to buckle in on the frame when he sits in it, since it says 55 pounds I know he is ok...but that weight includes an cargo...just keep that in mind.

But the stroller itself holds him well and it is a super easy stroller to fold and carry.
