I am completely new to the ipod and all 3 of my kids are getting them this Christmas. My 9 y.o., an avid reader, was mentioning today how she would love an ereader so she could have books with her all the time:) I had received an email advertising the free app for ipods from Kindle. Would this be a good app for a child that age?

Thanks!

As long as you set it up so they can't download books at will (with your Amazon account), it's great. Apple also has the iBooks app - same idea, except you purchase books through the Apple iTunes site (or iBooks on the iTunes site, I guess).

I don't believe those apps work on all iPods though - iPhones, iPod Touches, definitely. The other iPods don't have Internet access.

I use the Kindle app, the Nook app, and today i downloaded the Google Books app (which was just released today). I love them! I think they are a great alternative to a dedicated e-Reader. I thought I might get frustrated with having to "turn the page" so often on the small screen but it was never an issue. I read Stephen King's "Under the Dome" (about 800 pages) on my iPhone and I just loved having it with me everywhere I went (and not that huge book!).

Long story - yes, I think this would be great!

I love it. The small print and turning of the pages don't bother me. But my dd13 and dh didn't like the small print, constant page turnign and it kept changing landscape on them.

You can lock it to an orientation if you prefer - there is a lock symbol when you tap the screen - lock it to keep it at that orientation, unlock to allow it to rotate. You can also change the type size. Maybe if those were resolved the page turning wouldn't bother them so much?

Thanks! I love that she even asked for this so it's definitely getting added.
