Has anyone used the Quick Service dining plan yet? Did you think it was worth it? I know I can look at all of the menus online and have done that but I still can't decide if it is worth it. :confused3 It will be me and my 6 year old daughter going down and we do have 3 TS meals planned.

Thanks for any input!

The price difference between the Quick Service plan and the DDP is too small. I don't believe it's worth it when adults can upgrade for $10 (children less) and get a great table service meal.

but 10 dollars extra a day adds up to 70 for the week. thats a lot? I was more wondering if the QS is worth it not if an upgrade is worth it. I didn't like having to get to my reservations, it was a pain having to look at the clock all the time. lol.

Well, if you don't want to eat at a TS meal, the upgrade wouldn't be worth it! Sometimes it cracks me up how people assume everyone wants to eat like they do! I prefer CS, so the QSDP is the only one I'd try. :rotfl:

To the OP, I have done all the math, and for me, it would be pretty much of an even deal. I eat hot breakfasts, so some of my meals would be those, and they are fairly cheap. If you eat a full lunch and dinner every day, it's probably a better deal. It would basically come out as a free mug for me! I do think it's more food than I would eat otherwise, though, mostly snacks, since I think you can substitute water for desserts. I guess I could get things I could use as gifts when I returned. I'm still unsure of whether or not to try it, but since I've been thinking about it a lot and very few people have first hand experience, I wanted to share my thinking.

It's not just the $10 extra per day...you're also paying the gratuities. With 2 adults and 2 kids you're EASILY looking at an additional $300 for the week.

I'd rather scout out the better counter service options available at our resort (CSR), Sunshine Seasons, Downtown Disney options, etc.

When I did the math it appears that at worse case scenario it will be a breakeven plus free mug. I am willing to risk it for the convenience and because I ma certain we will come out ahead a bit in the area of snacks-I would not normally allow 2 snacks per person per day in the budget so that is a nice perk. In addition I have a real issue with "oh $3.50 each times 4, oh crap who pays $14 for popsicles!" so having the QS DDP won't allow my mind to go there!

BTW we did the original DDP when it included tip and grat. and loved it, but now all adults--that price difference would add up tremendously over the course of 14 days and tips:scared1: Totally not what we would be looking for either.

I didn't read it that way. It just seemed to me that Cindaddy was offering their opinion, not assuming everyone wants to eat like them. Just my opinion.:confused3

Me and my DD just got back from a week with the new QS plan and loved it! We did have one TS meal (Chefs de France) that we used our gift card for. We were there 7 nights/8 days and had PLENTY of food, even though the plan gives you food based on the number of nights. I did not pay OOP for anything except the one TS meal. I added up our receipts when we got home and they totalled $450. We spent $280 for the plan. That's a good deal in my book!

We really enjoyed not having ADR's this time around. We had free dining in October and that was nice for that trip, but this time it was great just to eat when and where we felt like it. I would not recomment the QS plan if you are doing more than 1-2 TS meals, however. It would simply be too much food for most people. The QS plan provides plenty of food each day, especially if you use your snack credits wisely. For example, there is no need to use snack credits on drinks, as you have the refillable mugs AND you get drinks with every meal. That means you can use one snack credit for breakfast and still have another snack credit to use on a snack later in the day. Plus you get dessert with each of your 2 meals each day. That's alot of food, trust me!

We really liked the QS plan and would do it again. Like I said, though, I would definitely do regular dining plan if I wanted more than 1-2 TS meals.

Pam :)

First of all I haven't used the QS plan but we did use the regular on our last trip so my thoughts. I'd ignore the "free" mug, unless you intend to drink lots & lots of soda/coffee/water! To explain CS breakfast doesn't have a dessert(& no you can't take a piece of fruit as that's a snack credit as we had explained to us?) so you end up with 2 drinks, you then have a drink with your other CS credit & you can use snack credits - 21 days we never paid oop for one drink!
Onto the food,on a short break I think I could live with it but certainly the breakfast would become monotonous after any length of time (IMHO) lunches we found really good ,in fact the turkey BLT at CBR was outstanding:goodvibes but again I wouldn't want to go too long as there just isn't enough variety(unless in the parks) for us the main downside & in particular at the resort was the whole school cafeteria vibe, all queueing up at different stations, queueing up to pay, finding a table, dodgying all the kids on heelies as your trying to get a cup of coffee....
I can also see the cons against the TS part we really didn't like having to map our vacation around which restaurant/resort we had to be at at a certain time!
Just my opinion & each to there own,no animals were harmed in the writing of this post & no I don't know why Superman wears his underpants on the outside;)
SD:thumbsup2

Oop! Sorry I did not clarify about the dessert! That's right, if you use your QS credit for breakfast, you do not get a "side", but instead you get 2 beverages. They really keep you well hydrated on the plan, lol! That's part of the reason why we primarily used snack credits for breakfast and QS credits for lunch and dinner. We did not get tired of the QS meals, but I think that is partly because I did alot of research on Allears menus to find the greatest variety in CS meals. We ate at DTD 5 times, which was not hard for us as we stayed at POFQ and were able to take to boat to DTD. Gotta love Wolfgang Puck Express! We also ate at Sunshine Seasons in Epcot 3 times, as they have a nice variety. I think we only ate meals at the resort 3-4 times. I agree the resort food court would have gotten old very fast if we ate there more often.

The QS worked well for us on this trip. I still agree that if you want a few TS meals in there, the regular plan is better for you. I would not hesitate to do free dining with the regular plan again...we enjoyed it as much as the QS plan...they are just 2 different experiences and each person has to figure out which one works best for their particular trip :)

I believe this poster told you about the upgrade costs because you said in the OP that you have 3 TS already planned. You would presumably be paying OOP for those and paying for the QSDP so the poster was suggesting upgrading to the reg DDP.

I agree that the reg DP ends up costing more than $10 more per day because you are paying for tips too. But since you already have the 3 TS planned maybe that would be a good option for you. :cutie:

I am trying the QSDP in March. My DS didn't do well with all the sit-down meals last trip so we are planning on mostly CS this trip. I mostly just wanted to pay upfront for everything also.

Ok...I just spent 15 minutes typing out a detailed response espounding the virtues of the new QSDP....and of course I did not copy my response 1st....so of course when I hit the submit button...I had been logged out and I lost it ALL. Have I mentioned that this site's timeout is WAY too short? I'm not going through that whole thing again :)

Bottom line...we LOVED the CS dining plan...it worked perfectly for us this past week and I would choose it again in a heartbeat. For families with young kids or a larger group it is perfect. Our CHEAPEST adult meal would have cost us $14 out of pocket (some were more like $20).....at that rate our mug and snacks were basically free :)

Also...as a side note....we DID schedule 2 character meals during the week (we used the $200 gift card to pay for them) we used the "left over" CS credits to have a few split hot breakfast's in the Pop food court. (we used snack credits for the other breakfasts) You MUST remember to calculate the cost of tips into the comparison between the regular DP and the CS DP...that is a big chunk.....it's not simply $10 a day more. For my family we would have been looking at probably $35-40 more per day at minimum....that's assuming you do lunch ADRs when it is cheaper...(less tip)...if your doing dinner ADRs at more expensive places then the tips are REALLY going to add up.

We have 4 TS 2 breakfast, 2 dinner. I didn't like being held down by reservations with the TS either but with my daughter I really wanted to do some TS Character meals. I almost decided to get the QS until you added your comment at the end. LOL. Why is this so hard?

If you absolutely HAVE to have more than 2 or 3 TS meals then the DDP is a better choice....how old is your daughter? I found that my 4 year old really wasnt that much into the whole character dining thing...the 2 year old loved it though. If you tour properly and hit the rope drops for the parks, I really don't feel that the character dining is really that needed. I am NOT a big fan of TS dinners either...it REALLY puts pressure on your park planning. With a little one..noone needs to HAVE to be somewhere at a certain time...what if she is not having a great day? A TS lunch in the park works perfect...gives you a break...you get to relax, decompress ect...then go back to the fun. Just some thoughts to ponder.

Thanks for the input. She will be turning 6 when we are down there. She loved the character meals when we went down last time and while I know we can meet them in the parks It was fun to interact with them at the dining. I think I will be sticking to at least 3 table service meals.

Haven't used the QSDP yet but I think it's worth it. We did the math and at the very least we will break even. We based it on what we would normally order so our calculations didn't include dessert, so dessert will be a bonus. We always buy a resort mug, it makes a great souvenier, so we included that in our calculations also.

Well I am thanking you for your info. :worship: :worship: We are going in April and are staying at the POP. We went last year and did the dinning plan and I felt that we ran to all our reservations missed things along the way and did not see everything because of them. I sat down and worked out that we would end up saving at least $60 a day by not haveing to tip and down gradeing to the counter service. We were going to buy the mugs, so that saved us another $52.00. We had some great Counter service meals last year, and then the snacks you get can be very filling as well. I am just looking forward to being able to eat when they want instead of me being a warden on the clock. My plan is to relax and enjoy this time around! :cool1:

This is a great little mini-review. Thanx for sharing your thoughts on the QS plan! I've been undecided but now I think we'll try it next trip with just DGD13 and me. It might be nice to not have to plan around meal times. We could use that extra time to do some fun things we never seem to find time for...maybe mini-golf, Cirque, water parks, etc. Besides, there are some really yummy CS places IMHO - Flame Tree, Cosmic Rays, Main Street Bakery, Wolfgang Puck...

I'm glad I could help! We stayed at POFQ and used the convenient boat ride to DTD to eat at Wolfgang Puck's numerous times....that's the main reason we came out so far ahead dollar wise. One meal at Puck's cost about as much as the meal plan cost us for the whole day! If I did not have the plan, I would have been constantly looking for the cheapest things on the menu and I would not have allowed us to get as many desserts and snacks...it was really fun to have the freedom to order whatever we wanted without worrying about the prices! And not having the ADR's really did free up alot of time. We ended up seeing Cirque and spending alot more time around our resort and at DTD than we ever have before. Have a wonderful trip....hope the QS plan works out as well for you as it did for us!

Pam :)
