Anyone use Program for fleas? It's the only thing I can find

that I can use on the outside kitties we are caring for. We just had a mama and two kittens trapped and spayed/neutered and vaccinated. They are feral in the sense that we can't pet them (yet!), but they are always hanging out with us, come to the door and cry for food, love to play near us, etc. My biggest fear is fleas...we had a HORRIBLE infestation with my 2 indoor cats a few years ago (I think WE gave them to our cats after a camping trip!) and my cats aren't on any prevention due to age and illness (I really don't trust those chemicals, but I understand they are necessary sometimes) and our dog has severe allergies so we use a natural spray suggested by our holistic vet. Program is a pill that I could crush and put in each cat's bowl...I just have to very careful and watch each cat gets only one dose.

Amazon has some great prices on Advatntage for Fleas...we like it better than anything else we've tried and we have 6 cats and a dog. I don't recommend the cheaper versions as they have pyrethins in them which can make you animals sick or kill them!

how old are the kittens? There is an certain age the kittens have to be before you can use certain flea meds/powders. Also if the mom is still nursing I dont think you can use the meds on the mom?

Oh, they are already over 5 months...they have been spayed and neutered already.

Vectra is a product we really like at our practice when there are already fleas present. They will kill the flea before biting the cat. Very quick and is a monthly topical. Please try to put aside any feelings about it hurting the cat. Fleas can kill cats/kittens and carry parasites and the cats will probably get tapeworm from eating the fleas and need tapeworm meds too. It's a no-brainer for our practice to use the best product when there are fleas present. Then a good product is revolution that is a one-stop shopping kind of product that is for heartworm, roundworms, ear mites, fleas, etc. Good for outdoor cats for sure. Best of luck.

Thanks, I don't think we have any yet present. Kind of early here in the Northeast. At least I hope! And they just got spayed last week and they didn't mention seeing fleas.

We cannot use any topical as I cannot touch the cats...they have never had human contact.
