Anyone Use Prepaid VISA or AMEX for trips?

Hi...Just came across the Amex prepaid reloadable gift card and am wondering if anyone has used this to squirrel away money for vacations? There are no activation or monthly fees with it and the balance never expires.

Problem with cash is that I always wind up tapping into it and thought adding a certain amount each week to it would be a nice bonus for when we go on vacation.

I used a prepaid Visa to put all of my Disney gas money on (we were driving). I was going to use it for food as well, but after reading some threads about Disney restaurants taking extra tip $ off the gift cards, I decided to just use cash. I did put my souviner and park snack $ on Disney gift cards. When we ended up having extra, I just used it to pay for one of our meals on our last day.

We've used them on other vacations and they've been great - so much easier to use! I just tend to use Disney Gift Cards when we're down at Disney, so I don't have to worry about anything... That said a good thing about getting the pre-paid is if you have leftover $$ you didn't spend, you can use it back home.

I have been thinking the same thing. I want one that I can reload when I wish. The only issues I have seen is that some of these cards have a loading fee.

I did notice on Swagbucks that the Western Union one had a coupon for free cash load.

That's why I was thinking of the Amex card. It has no fee to purchase or activate and no monthly fees.

The only fee is that they allow one ATM use a month. I think any ATM use over that is subject to a $2 charge. I probably would never use it at the ATM anyway.

Think I am going to get one.

If anyone knows of a better one, love to hear about it.
