Anyone use Melatonin?

It just seems to have the opposite effect on me. I sleep less when I take it, both with getting to sleep and staying asleep.
 
My son uses it during the school week. Without it he would still be awake when I got home from work, I work 3-11 and drive an hour home, on a good night. He was always getting in trouble at school. Never wanted to get up, etc. We give him about 1.5 mg per night of liquid melatonin. He is typically asleep within 15-20 mins, sleeps through the night for the most part, there are times when he hops into bed with me after dh goes to work. He is easier to get up for school, doesnt mope around and try to go back to sleep. It has been a life saver here.
 
I take 3mgs of time release melatonin and began doing so around 4 years ago. I sleep wonderfully now.

If melatonin does not work as well as hoped, other ideas that might help is to take a little bit of magnesium in the evening. I've read of other finding help with sleep doing this, and have a family members that found magnesium helped him best.

Another idea is to possibly look at your blood sugar levels and keep them in line. Recall this article on Dr. Briffa's sight about that.

I take 3mg of melitonin nightly. It takes about 45 minutes to kick in and I sleep well. I don't wake up with the sleeping pill hangover either. I did have very vivid dreams when I first started taking it, but those have now subsided.
 

My DS11 takes ADD meds and it keeps him from falling asleep. I started giving him 5 mg gel cap of Melatonin about a year ago and it really helps him.

Without it he will lay in there until 3 or 4 am and not fall asleep.

I have the same problem but it is not from taking meds I just have insomnia.

I tried Melatonin and it didn't do didlly squat for me but it does work on my DS.

My DH occasionally takes it too and it works for him.
