Before our next trip I am thinking about buying those head support pillows that are placed around your neck. They supposedly make it more comfortable should you want to sleep. Anyone used these?

I have used them on planes and in the car. I find it helps a lot as I am one of the poor souls who does that head bobbing thing when I fall asleep sitting up. It stops me from doing that and saves my neck from pain.

I have the blow-up kind. The cushy kind might be more comfortable, but they take up more room. A must for any flight over 2 hours!

It depends on your neck and shoulder geometry. If you have a long neck, or very sloped shoulders, one of those pillows won't do anything but keep your neck warm. Your head will flop over and never rest on the pillow. Go to some place where they sell them, and try one out before you spend the cash.

I travel frequently for work flying about 3 weeks every month and I love my neck pillow! I used to think they were just another unnecessary thing to have to carry until I got one. Now I get mad at myself if I forget to bring it along with me!!

This is the one I have and I love it! The inner "pillow" is removable and I wash the cover once a week. It's lasted over 5 years now!! And I love it's compact size.

Yes I have, they are great for long haul flights when sitting in coach. I don't bother if flying in business or first class as the beds lie down, but for the coach seats that don't lie flat, they are really a great idea.

I haven't ever used them on a short haul flight (under 5-7 hours)

I hadn't found that they worked all that well for me as they pushed my neck too far forward. However, one day I had an epiphany and tried using it in reverse (with the 'opening' facing the back of my neck). Now I love it, and it definitely makes long haul flights more comfortable!
