anyone use flonase or other nasal allergy spray?

My sleep doctor just prescribed flonase (hopefully to get my nose clear so my sleep apnea treatment will work better). Does anyone here use flonase or nasonex or another nasal allergy spray? I've used it for two nights now and am just not sure if I'm using it correctly!

It just feels like its not really getting "in" to my nasal passages -- first I feel it trying to drip out my nose, and then a few minutes later, I feel it trying to drip down the back of my throat (gross!) How do you guys use it? Any tips?

I use Flonase (and Singulair, Zyrtec, and Advair) every night. With the Flonase, i close off one nostril and inhale while I squirt it in and then to the other side. Sometimes it works better than others. I have used it for several years. It may be that your nostrils are swollen and will need to reduce before you feel it is getting in. I think it should get easier for you. Good luck.

Your Dr. also should have told you that consistent ongoing use is needed to feel the benefits of a nasal spray(at least in my situation). It usually takes me about two weeks of consistent use to feel the ongoing benefits during allergy season.

Don't expect it to work and feel like Afrin nose spray or those types of products.

I believe the stuff attaches to the mast cells in your nose and a little higher up and then starts doing its work. It doesn't need to go way up in the sinuses.

I use nasonex. My doctor told me to spray at a 45 degree angle towards the outside of the nose. I usually do it standing up. This, in combination with Rescon (pills) keeps me in good shape.

I also find that the drippage down the back of my throat is so gross that it makes me want to puke! GF and I agree that flonase smells like potpourri (or dead flowers, as I prefer to say)... unfortunately it also tastes like dead flowers... and is sort of sweet or something ... kind of activates my gag reflex when I taste it. Did this go away after a while for you guys or do you just deal with it?

It goes away, you get used to it, you no longer notice it, pick any of these answers. The first few times are always the worst...

I think you get used to it. When I first started using the Flonase the smell REALLY bothered me. I am very sensitive to strong smells, cannot STAND perfume, etc. But now I hardly notice it.

I must be the oddball! I use Flonase and have never noticed the smell or it dripping back down.

Before Flonase, I used Naselcort (sp?) and that stuff gave me some serious migranes!

I use nasonex and astelin. It takes about a week or two to get used to it. I make sure to blow my nose before I use the spray, and basically just follow the directions on the bottle.

I used to use Flonase, now use Nasonex which I like better. My doctor told me to first use saline nasal spray, blow my nose to clear out secretions, then use the prescription stuff. It does seem to work better if I do that.
