Anyone use earplugs for their child?

My 4 year old DS does have a terrible time with loud noise. Now that I have been reading so much about everything at Disney, I hope it will not be too overwhelming for him.

Anyway, has anyone ever use earplugs for their child? Did it work? Did they keep them in?

Both of my kids have tubes in their ears and they are very used to them anyways so we used them on the plane. We also took them with us for shows. Unfortunately, the one that seemed the loudest, the Tiki Birds, was the one time we left the ear plugs at the hotel! If you're looking to buy some, we like the orange moldable silicone ones from www.theearplugstore.com. I think that is the address - or at least it is close!

We used them all the time. It is, in our opinion, an absolute necessity and can turn an "ok" trip into a fantastic vactation.

Please consider them and let them know that they will enjoy everything much better than if they didn't use them.

DD has used earplugs and they helped a lot. DS would not keep them in though. For the next trip we are bringing the sort of compact earmuffs. While they may not keep the noise out a lot, just the cutting down will help.

my son has always been sensitive to loud noises. He had a wonderful time our 1st trip w/ him, (8yo) but spent the entire time with his fingers in his ears. He just knew it would be too lloud for him. Earplugs are a great idea!

We use the junior earmuffs for our 5 year old. We've used them since she was 3. They are her security--she'll grab them when things get too loud or scary. They are covered with Disney stickers and many of our photos of her are with the earmuffs We just got back last week and we noticed that she used them less than on the earlier trips--but always for fireworks!!

can you tell me where you got those? we've used earplugs, but I think earmuffs would be so much easier (unless I just haven't found the perfect brand of earplugs that will stay in my DS5's ears!) Thanks!

Earplugs are a must. The sounds are just too loud and damaging for a child's ear. My dd finds additional security in them as well. The ones you can get at Home Depot and such are great because they are on a string and you can keep track of them easier...plus they are stronger than the ones you can get at the drug store..but some are better than none...your children will thank you later. (I use them too)

You may not be able to tell but many performers use them as well...prior to mommyhood I was an entertainment director at a small theme park...I dealt with OSHA on protecting our performers -

This is a wise choice. It is easy to forget about protecting their hearing.

I bought some on a head band for my DD but she woudn't wear them. She just plugs her ears.

I work with autistic kids that have sensitivities to sound. They have earguards (?) like they use at firing ranges at sporting goods stores that will really keep the sound down if your ds/dd has a sensitivity to sound.

We got earplugs on a thin cord for our kids at Home Depot, that way they could wear them on their necks if they needed them, could put them in and out by themselves and they weren't too expensive. They didn't use them too much, but knew they were there if things got too loud. Otherwise they just curl up into little balls with their hands over their ears. Not a fun way to watch fireworks!

We're planning on bringing the headband type in Aug when we go. My DD4 is really sensitive to load noises. On our last trip we used her blanket and tied it around her ears when it got loud. This time we're not carrying any of that stuff around so she'll be using her woodworking ear plugs that DH bought for when they help in the garage.

We used them on our trip Feb of 2004 for our then 3 y.o. They were an absolute lifesaver. He asked for his earphones every time we went on a loud ride or at the fireworks. We bought the headphone type - like people use on firing ranges. I bought them in the sproting good section of walmart. There are better ones available but we needed them before our trip and walmart had them in stock. I highly reccomend them for kids with sensitivity to noise!

I'll chime in, DS 19 has a problem with loud noises, severe, it was awhile before we figured it out!! He would put his fingers in his ears, and avoid fireworks, then we found the foam (yellow) earplugs... He loves them, he loves them so much a friend at camp gave him a CASE of the things!!

So now when he takes a nap, or tunes us out... his earplugs are in!!

We use them with our DD since she has ear tubes. The moldable silicone ones work great. For swimming we have the fitted ones, but they are a pain, and the silicone ones seal her ears just fine, so we use the silicone.
