DD is 16 months old and just under the weight limit for the baby bjorn. We are leaving for our WDW trip tomorrow afternoon :cool1: , so yeah, I waited until the last possible minute to ask this. I had planned on using the hip hammock by Playtex to hold her while in line for rides, but of course it was recalled. So the info said I would get the "new, improved" version in 7-10 days. Haven't seen anything yet! So, has anyone used the baby bjorn for a baby around the weight limit? And if so, did it work well? It wouldn't be for very long--unless lines are horrible. We've been so busy, that we've just now got around to packing, so I'm looking for any advice. Any other suggestions on how to corrall her in the lines? we were there in Feb. and holding her w/o assitance is just not an option. Thanks!

Would she even tolerate dangling in a Bjorn (uncomfy position for anyone, IMO)? I found the Bjorn uncomfortable when DS wasn't even 15lbs, so I couldn't imagine using it with a 25-lber. Ouch. If you asked last week, I could offer some inexpensive suggestions, but with only a day to go....

I know that it was recalled, but perhaps bring the Hip Hammock along and use it, but keep both hands on her in case that clip should become unfastened?? I know, I know, it is a risk, you have to decide if that is okay with you or not.

Another option would be to run to Target or Wal-Mart and get a harness/leash thingie for a toddler. It would at least keep her close to you while in line.

My 14m is not even 20 lbs yet (he was a premee), and I gave up the baby bjorn awhile ago. I would suggest maybe a sling. You can adjust it to keep baby on your hip and Target & walmart have inexpensive ones. There is also some other hip thing out there I see at Big Lots and Walmart all the time.

I don't know if they still make them but the BABYSLING (recommended by Dr. Sears) allows you to hold a toddler on your hip and keep your hands free. We used one for my son til he was almost 3. He would even sleep in it (like a hammock) with one leg slung over the side. I hope you can find one! :)

FYI, the improved hip hammock is out in stores now(I saw it at Wal-Mart for about $40.00). I know you are waiting for your free replacement, but if you're desperate you can always buy one.

Try a Maya wrap, we were able to hold our girls COMFORTABLY in a variety of positions in these until they were 3 and could probably STILL hold them if we had to and they are 6. www.maywrap.com the BEST invention ont he planet!

I never did get the hang of a Bjorn -- it always made me want to bend forward and throw off my center of gravity, which was too hard on my back.

We loved our baby backpack, though. We got one of the simplest ones -- I think it was a Graco. When baby wasn't in it, that baby folded up flat, no sweat. When our kids were in it (we went through 3 kids on one backpack!), they seemed to really like being "up high" where they could see everything, and also having Mom or Dad's shoulder to rest their heads against if they were tired.

I still use my Bjorn with my daughter, who is now 13 months, 20 lbs. and almost 30 in. I love it and I never have any problems using it. We do have the Active Carrier though, which has lumbar support, so that might be why I don't feel any pain when carrying her. We also have a Hip Hammock (got our improved one in th email a few weeks ago) and we'll be bringing both that and the Bjorn with us to WDW next week, though I'm guessing I will use the Bjorn more. My daughter seems to like it more than the Hip Hammock so she will stay in it longer, but I'd like to have both so I can switch off if I want to (her legs are long and she sometimes thinks it's funny to stiffen them so they kick me when I walk!).

I still used my baby bjorn at Disneyland last month and my DD was 22 months, about 27 pounds. It was only for when she was sleeping and we wanted to be able to hop on and off rides with the others without waking her up each time, and it's too hard for me to carry her free hand the entire time and keep track of the other kids. It worked great! ( I am also waiting for a Hip Hammock replacement, hope it's not too much longer!)

Yep, we used our Baby Bjorn often in December when DS was 16 months old. He was about 23 lbs so not huge but heavy enough. I also brought - how is this for overkill but I wanted to have all my options - my Kangaroo Korner sling and a hip carrier (from the Right Start catalog). We found the Baby Bjorn worked best for us since the other two made him squirmy. Now it was a 2-person job to get him into it but well worth it once we did. We used it primarily for waiting in lines and going on rides. He loved the view, different and higher up from being stuck in the stroller.

Have fun!

depends on how comfy it is for both of you, try prcticing grocery run with her in it. I used mine untill each of my children was well over 25 pounds. (I have big babies!!)I loved it and so did they. I would also say tho - that although a backpack was never comfy for me, I have seen a backpack that converts to a stroller - that seems like a good idea!!
