We're really looking forward to our first Universal trip since 2001. With Disney we've used DIS & MJ with great success as well as calling Disney directly ourselves. So far I can tell from this great site that Universal unlike Disney releases codes about a month before. We're planning on getting AP's so we were wondering does any TA book Universal & then wait for codes & then apply them for you ? Or should I just keep checking the forum (I do anyway everyday :goodvibes ) & book myself ? We're headed approx. 12/17 - 12/23. We realize we'll need FOTL but I was researching this site & saw that Universal did release some pretty good deals for Dec. last year. We were hoping for the HRH & I've read that 12/17 isn't within the Holiday Rate yet so I have some hope for room discounts. Any suggestions would be really appreciated !

I have never used a TA to book a Universal trip. I was at HRH similar dates in '04 and got a decent rate--$144 poolview. My original reservation was for 12/19-12/22. I later wanted to add 12/23 and was told $288 for that night. I booked a room offsite for 12/23. When I got to HRH I started inquiring about extending to include 12/23. I was told $288. I persisted and finally got them to agree to honor the $144 rate for the extra night. This was the Entertainment book rate.

Good luck!

Hi! I haven't used a travel agent for Universal in the past, but I used Mouse Ear Vacations this year as my WDW agent and my assigned agent, Joy, took over my Universal reservations as well and will keep an eye out for deals. As with WDW, you really don't need a travel agent to put everything together. But if you have a lot of other things on your plate it's nice to have another pair of eyes checking for deals and helping you keep track of everything.
