Anyone tried Turbo Jam

I am trying to find a couple of good fitness programs that I can do at home. I hate going to the gym and working out around other people. Its just not my think.

I know that I really need to work on cardio. I've been looking at a few programs and so many of them seem a little too extreme for me. I'm simply a beginner and I need a beginner program. Of course many searches that I do takes me to the Beachbody website...but I know that I'm no where near in shape or have the endurance to do programs like Insanity, P90X, etc. I want something that I can actually do and not feel totally frustrated the entire time.

So, while browsing their website, I found Turbo Jam. Its cardio and looks like it would be good for beginners.

I know that the Dis will give honest opinions and not sugar coat it. So....give it to me...is this program any good?? Did you like it? Did you see results?

Bonus question--my husband wants to start working out as well. Is Turbo Jam girly? Or is it something he would want to do as well?

Thanks!

I have never done Turbo Jam but I am a beachbody coach. Turbo Jam is a pretty old program and from what I see I think it would tend to be more dancy which is more towards girls most of the time.

Here is one thing....what do YOU like to do...what gets you motivated? Is it the music, do you like to dance, do you like boxing, kickboxing? If you can narrow down what you like to do then there is a beachbody program for you. And any beachbody program has a modifier so you can start out following the modifier then work your way up to hanging with the others. The important thing is to find a trainer that you connect with and go with that. Check out the different workouts on you tube. I personally LOVE P90X, but it is long. If you are looking for shorter workouts (half hour) check out T25 or P90X3. Again, they have modifiers that you can follow.

If you want anymore information or have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to me. I will be glad to help you. The "turbo" workouts are a girl...Chalean, P90X, 2, 3 are Tony Horton and Insanity, T25 are Shaun T. See if a trainer clicks with your. I love love love Les MIlls Combat which is a lot of punching and kicking.

One other thing before I go.....the awesome thing about these programs are that you do a different workout everyday. So for P90X, you have a body core, then cardio, then arms, legs, stretching, Yoga, a combat day...so it makes it interesting. Shaun T does the same thing.

Here is my website if you want to check out the various workouts.... www.beachbodycoach.com/mckelvey72.

Thanks for the input.

I'm still trying to figure out what I do like. About a million years ago, I remember doing TaeBo and not hating it. In general, I'm a little adverse to exercise and not really sure what I like. So, I was looking for something that might be more "fun" to do. I do know, I want to focus on cardio right now.

I saw the T25 program and liked that it wasn't too long, but then I worry about it being too much for me to handle. I know the modifiers are there to make it easier, but how long would I have to do the program before I didn't need the modifier and would I just get sick of it before then? (I'm asking these questios to myself...not to you.....just to be clear). Also, its pretty expensive.

I was thinking something like Turbo Jam might be a little easier and a way to get my feet wet, so to speak, without getting too frustrated. Then, I can move onto something else more challenging.

We'll see.

Check out the 21 Day Fix. It helps you with eating, it has half hour workouts and it isn't that expensive...not like the other programs. And maybe if you say to yourself "it is only 21 days"....when you are done you might find that you are ready for something else.

I haven't gotten it yet but I am seriously considering it mainly because the eating portion is my issue!!!

Good luck with your journey, as Tony Horton would say "Do your best and forget the rest!!". And again, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.

I have a few of the beachbody ones and even though I like Tony Horton, they are a bit intense. I much prefer Leslie Sansone and the walk off the pounds dvds. I picked one up at Walmart for around $10 and it came with stretchy nylon exercise bands. It's enough to get me sweaty but not too much that I give up on it.

I have the original TurboJam DVD's (like 2005-2006 ish?). I loved them then, and I still love them now. You can buy new or like new off Amazon for way cheaper than at Beachbody.

My husband also does them and loves them (when he feels like doing cardio workouts. It really isn't that girly at all, maybe just a few moves are and that isn't a big deal. You punch, jab, kick and move and it gets you sweaty!

I have the original Turbo Jam DVD's too, they are fun and DBF did them with me a few times and he didn't say they were too girly at all. They are more geared towards dance with some boxing moves tossed in, both of which I really enjoy so I liked them.

I'm also looking for something i can do at home. I belong to a gym but would like to have a workout i can do at home too. T25 might be too much for me. When i first had my son in the 80's i used Richard Simmons Sweating to the oldies! and i actually lost 30 lbs doing it!

T25 is not too bad. I had a relative do it and he was a high school athlete, but 20+ years removed. Time had caught up to him and was starting to inch closer and closer to out of shape and borderline chunky. Like 10 pounds less would move him safely back to a "healthy" BMI. He lost 13 pounds so far after 8 weeks. He didn't change his diet except to change out Coke at lunch and dinner for water and diet drinks. He said he was following the girl modifier some of the time, and sometimes the moves got a bit "dancy" and he didn't have the coordination to pull them off so he just jogged in place for the 30 seconds they did that move.

My cousin downloaded the DVDs and started it last week. She said she was a bit achy the next day for the first two days but is liking it. It says it is 25 minutes, but there is also a 5 minute cool down period so it is really 30 minutes long. And they say to do two workouts on Friday, or do one on the weekend. So the ad of 25 minutes a day for 5 days is a bit misleading. But it is a solid workout, you will repeat each disc about 5 or 6 times over the 10 weeks. So it isn't too boring. Plus the guys go shirtless in the second half of the program and that adds to it. :)
