Anyone tried the plane/train combo?

Hi- I was wondering if anyone tried taking the train down and taking the plane home from their trip (or vice-versa). I can't seem to find the link on the Amtrak site.

Just wondering what the savings are over flying both ways.

I also read somewhere here on these boards about someone having a bad experience on the train ride down, so they ended up renting a car the way home. This got me thinking- has anyone rented a car to travel one way and fly the other?
Thanks-

Bump - I would also like to know. I have a feeling it will not be cheaper than just flying r/t but my son is a rail fan and would most likely enjoy the experience. :sunny:

Decided I wanted to experience the train ride to Florida so took the 26-hour ride down and had booked a one-way flight home. Booked both legs separately - Amtrak going down ($76?), Delta coming home (don't remember $, but SW is only $79 one way to PVD).

I think doing it vice versa wouldn't work as well since after the vacations over, a long train ride home would be killer!!!

Hope this is the info you're looking for! :teeth:
