Anyone there now...weather? crowds? wait time?

What about picking up a can of waterproofing spray? I know they sell it at Target, Walmart and shoe stores. This would allow you to wear shoes that you have already broken in.

It is not just raining a little bit right now. It's pouring. Heavily. And it is supposed to be like this all week....according to "Storm Watch" (cue the urgent music and graphics Hee Hee!). So pretty much anything that is not covered with rain gear will be drenched, and it will seem colder than whatever the actual temperature is. If you wear glasses and are not using an umbrella to cover your head, the glasses will be totally waterlogged. I have had that happen at DLR before. Not fun! This is the sort of weather where if I had to go to DLR, I would wear the full head-to-toe rain gear as well as bring an umbrella with me, and make sure my camera, cell phone, money, paper items, etc. are totally protected.

But, I cannot fathom how the crowds could be even remotely heavy on a day like today. I would bet that every ride will be a walk-on.

We arrive there tomorrow morning. One question....do they sell rain ponchos in Disneyland and the hotel gift shops? I have just one poncho here, and think we might need another.

I can't venture a guess about the hotel gift shops but I know that they sell rain ponchos in the store next to Grizzly River Run. I've bought a few there ! The downside is that they are pretty flimsy and the coverage isn't the greatest. The upside is that IF they tear (and mine has), the store will replace them (which they did)....just hang on to your receipt (which I didn't but they still gave me a new one !!! Have a great time!

P.S. One of the best ponchos I ever got was at a dollar store so if you have access to one of those, grab some and then you don't feel bad about leaving them behind. The ones at DL cost about $8 I believe.

I just heard on the radio that the storm caused an early closure for Disneyland today. No details of course, and I haven't called to confirm, but I was surprised, it must be nasty down there (I live up in the high desert about 75 miles away, and its wet, but not THAT bad!)

You are right! We were there last week. I would have been sad if we had to leave early!

Yes they did close the parks early today. Big Thunder Mountain had parts of the track underwater. Knotts Berry Farm didn't even open. It is to be raining like this all week. We live in NoCal and the weather is a BIG topic right now. The Sierra mountains are to get 10 feet of snow this week. The news reported in LA area they may be having massive mud slides do to the weather.

And yes they sell ponchos at Disney but go to Target and you can get them for 2 bucks vs 10+.

If you are on Twitter I recommend following disneylandlive. They give great updates thru out the day.

Funny that pigletforever mentioned Disneylandlive as I was just reading it. Here's a quote regarding today (Monday): "Disneyland would now close at 8pm while DCA will close it’s doors at 6pm. The park was already seeing low attendance numbers during this Martin Luther King Jr. holiday because of the heavy rains. Betsy Sanchez, a Disneyland spokeswoman was quoted by the Orange County Register as saying 'Unfortunately, current weather conditions do not allow us to provide the best possible guest experience.' "

I must share maybe the funniest thing I have read or heard all day regarding our massive rain today, also from disneylandlive: "Will the Rivers of America get re-filled this week…?" ahahaha!

I also live in So Ca, about a hour from the park. For So. California it is all about the layering. We are going on the 30th, and we will more then likely wear pants, some kind of boots (sprayed to protect from the water), long sleeve shirt, with a short sleeve over it, fleece jacket, and rain jacket over that. Seems like a lot, but you can never be to prepared as the days might be warmer but the nights get chilly.

Thank goodness for the 2 year old and his stroller to haul it all around.

On a side note we were there one December when it started raining, we decided to stay and tough it out. My daughter then was still using a stroller and I parked it by the baby changing room to change her diaper. Some dip wad decided to push it out in the rain so he could be under the cover, so her entire stroller got soaked!

And, as a PP stated, DLR can be very slippery when it's wet. DH, DS and I were all wearing shoes that I thought had pretty good traction but we were all slipping in some areas, like the store outside IASW.

Interesting to see this! When we were there in October we faced a couple of rainy days; we thought our shoes were fine, they have great traction at home... not so much in DL parks!! Something about the concrete/bricks/walking paths really startled us with how smooth and slippery they became in the rain. My spouse assumed that maybe they don't need to use a rougher type of surface as to what they may use back home for us on the roads and sidewalks.... it appeared that the surface was SO smooth that as soon as it was wet, it DID become treacherously slippery, we ALL noticed that, in our family of 4. We wore basic walking/running shoes.

Can anyone shed some light on this? We did find the surface to be very shiny and smooth, and think that perhaps that parks want this look since it seldom rains in CA.?

Anyway, WATCH the crocs, I would definitely not be wearing those now, as another poster mentioned.

If you ever wanted to just walk into Blue Bayou without a reservation, today (Wednesday) was the day. 0 wait time for walk ins all day.

It was a surprise to me how slippery the walking areas are in DLR. My kids wiped out a few times (nothing serious) and they were wearing running shoes. I do think the use of the materials is for aesthetics various practicality.

The one good thing with the rain is that everything is pretty much a walk on...no waiting!

As for this previous weekend ( we've been here since Saturday) I was a bit surprised that the parks were not busy at all and it was a holiday weekend. And the weather was pretty nice until Monday, when it started to rain. I guess the blocking of So Cal passes may have been a factor.
