My brother, SIL, and niece and nephew are at WDW right now for their first trip ever. I worked with them a lot on plans for the trip and my only worries were crowds and heat (we go in slower and cooler times ourselves). They got there on Wednesday, so missed the 4th, but probably not the crowds.

Anyone able to tell me how everything is right now? I'm dying to know what they're experiencing and can't wait to hear about the trip when they get back.

It is very hot and humid right now. We've had a ton of rain the past two days and more is expected today. I live ten minutes from WDW property. We've had almost 6 inches of rain in the past few days. It is so humid you can almost swim through the atmosphere!

I've not been to the parks in a couple of days, but DTD has been packed!

I get on my place soon. Tell me more about how unbearably hot it is, haha.

I am in Tampa, an hour from WDW - it is hotter here now than ever. I would never go to a park in this heat and humidity!

Well, we returned Sunday, so it was before they arrived, but it is very hot and humid and I thought the parks were really busy.

However, since they had your help, I'm sure they're doin' fine!

I live in Daytona Beach and I would never let the heat stop be from visiting the World! :goodvibes

How old are your neice and nephew? When ours were babies and toddlers the heat of summer at WDW was more than we could handle. We did it a couple of times and it was miserable (and we have lived most of our lives in the southern US!) As the kids get older it is easier and easier to handle different temperature extremes, they are just tougher. I guess it depends of the kids though. Are they planning breaks/swimming in the afternoon? I agree with the pp, I'm sure if you helped them with planning they are getting along fine. I understand your concern, but you really have done all you can do KWIM??? Some folks just go clueless, don't know about FP or anything.....

We just got back on Thursday...it was very hot and humid. I was surprised at the wait times for rides and to see the characters. We arrived on the 29th of June and went right into see Mickey...no wait. We went to MK on the 3rd of July for opening and went right on to Splash Mountain and BTMR. I was shocked that we didn't have to wait forever, maybe we got there before everyone else. I hate crowds but I didn't find it too bad.

I was at Epcot Thursday night during the showers and I can tell you it was pretty crowded. Several of the FW pavilions were closed for various reasons including: Test Track, Wonders of Life and Universe of Energy. Needless to say, M:S and Soarin' were packed!

Thanks everyone - this is pretty much what I expected. We were there last September and I thought I could swim through the air, it was so humid! I figured July would be crazy.

DNiece and DNephew are 6 and 8 respectively. My nephew doesn't deal well with heat and my niece has a condition with her hip ( Perthes disease or syndrome or something ) so I know they were going to take rests in the afternoon. They are staying at the Poly, so the monorail is right there. We begged them to consider renting a car, just for more flexibility, and to consider staying at the Beach Club, where the pool is huge and only hotel guests can use it (and where this will be enforced with wrist bands on busy days) but they wanted the monorail. I told them from experience on our last trip (in early May - not a busy time like now) that the volcano pool is people soup, but they liked the monorail idea and I think they were a bit intimidated by the rental car idea.

You're all right though...I did what I could. I made all the ADR's and gave them all the advice from 10+ trips and countless hours on the DIS. And when they get home, I'll hear all the wonderful things they did and refrain from saying "I told you so!"

Is it raining all thru the day or just afternoon/evening storms?

Summer in Florida means rain almost every day, usually sporadically. It does not usually rain all day unless there is a depression or big storm coming.
