In my husband's family her sister is the favorite. She knows it, and she plays on it to. Their family constantly helps them out financially or just plain buys them the things they want. All holidays have to be scheduled around them. I finally got sick of it about 4 years ago and stood my ground. I refused to go to his grandmother's house for Christmas because the woman was rude to us and it was a complete waste of our time. SIL wanted us to go so badly that we got into a pretty big fight over it. Now she wishes she could not go but won't stop because that is the only way she remains the favorite. It is really pathetic.
In my family I think I'm the prefered child because I managed to get where I am without much help. While my brother is the favorite in terms of parents bailing him out of trouble and making excuses for his behaviour. He and his girlfriend are both 22 and pregnant. My father couldn't be happier (I am happy to don't get me wrong) but I asked my Dad if he would have been this understanding if it had happened to me and he said, no he wouldn't of. That hurts that he would have been disappointed in me, but for my brother it is okay.
