...please help.

Ever since I had my son, I get motion sickness. Not so much from roller coasters or anything that goes fast but from spinning. I went on the teacups last trip and could not stand to get out of the cup for 5 - 10 minutes because I was so dizzy.
I am very worried about Mission Space. Does it spin? Is there a centrifuge type of effect like the teacups? I would really appreciate your help.

I did not go on the ride but 8 people in our party went on it and all but two kids felt motion sickness. My husband said he followed the instructions and still felt sick, I was happy to stay off it with the little ones.

Hey PoohBear,

M:S is a lot smoother than the Tea Cups, or Body Wars or Star Tours. Pay attention to the advice about keeping your head back and eyes forward. Also, get a good night's sleep and have a decent meal prior to riding. Okay, not *just* prior to riding, but a couple hours before. Overall, I think the experience is worth the risk.

While there is not a lot of "spinning" per se, there is a lot of force. Upon takeoff, it feels like your cheeks are getting sucked through the back of your head! It is an Excellent simulator - it does feel as if you are flying through space & if you get motion-sick easily, you may want to pass.

From what I understand, this ride produces the "G forces" you feel during the ride by spinning. You don't know that you are spinning when you are riding it, or at least I didn't. My DH, though, was another matter altogether. He also is prone to motion sickness. He can't even ride long distances in the back seat of a car. He told me that he could tell that the ride was spinning and that it made him nauseous. They have warning signs up in the queue for the ride that advise those with motion sickness not to ride. It took him several hours to recouperate from the ride.

While I don't want you to miss out on such an awesome ride, if you are prone to motion sickness and don't want to spend a good part of your day trying to recoup, you might want to skip it.
HTH.

I was nervous about this but I am so glad I rode - I loved it! We rode mid morning - had only eaten a nutrigrain bar or some such thing, rode Test Track, Universe of Energy and then MS. It was so cool. I did take a non-drowsy Dramamine that morning in anticipation of riding MS (I think it made me sleepy in Universe though!) I only once briefly realized I was spinning but I followed all advice about keeping head back and really got into what I was seeing and I LOVED IT! I would definitely do this attraction again.

My DH got sick on a prior visit to tea cups but he was fine on this without Dramamine. The other 6 riders in our party were fine too!

My DH and I rode M:S first thing in the AM, right when Epcot opened. We didn't eat breakfast yet or anything.
It worked for us! I loved the ride, and we both felt a little off for about 15 min afterward, nothing major, but I will definitely ride it again!
Hope this helps!:D

I do not like the Tea cups and even Carousel makes me a bit woozy, I am okay on Star tour and Body wars but really did not mind Mission Space. I was not going to ride it, I was just going to wait until I got to the capsule and chicken out, but decided to stay.
I took the advice of others who have posted here, do not close your eyes and focus on the screen. It was intense though and I only rode it the one time, but I was by myself. Next year I am sure my kids will coerce me into going again.

Just thinking about the Tea Cups makes me feel bad, but I absolutely love Mission Space. Although you are spinning, there is no sensation of spinning. You are enclosed in a capsule and can't "see" that you are spinning. I think everybody should try it once just to know for themselves. I am soooo glad that I did.

My dh and I like the thrill rides, and we did MS twice, but not back-to-back. I read that some people who normally don't get sick have been queezy, but others who have problems with motion sickness are fine. I think it's worth the risk, but it's not the kind of ride I can run back into line and do laps. Don't eat right before you go, and focus on the screen. Don't look around the simulator while you're moving, or it will be hard not to get sick. The launch nearly ate me the first time, but I was also unsure just how bad the G's were going to be, so I was a little nervous. This is not a spin and puke like the teacups. I felt the G's, not the spinning. It's worth the risk, and although I don't normally get sick on rides, I did get a touch queezy after the 1st time. Notice that didn't stop me from a 2nd ride.

I don't like teacups, Star Tours or even TOT but I LOVED MS. We took a Bonine the night before, just in case. Split a breakfast platter with DH at CBR about 8am, and rode MS at 10am. Then went back and rode it again(no wait, so back to back rides). No problem and I did not see anyone with problems either. If you were not told it was spinning, you would not realize it. You feel a force that pushes you back, but we never felt a spinning sensation. I did not take my eyes off the screen either.
It is one of those rides that you just cannot predict your reaction unless you try it.;)

I just did MS. I also did the teacups.

The teacups really felt like spinning, MS did not. It felt more like I was going up & down rather than spinning. If I had not seen the "set-up" while boarding, I would not have know it.

Personally, I think an adult in each group/family should try the ride first. Every child is different. Some small kids will be just fine, others will not. If you're "boarderline", then it's better to wait & have an excuse to come back!

I also do not like rollercoasters, at least the dropping part. I do like MGM's Rock in Roll one, though.

My sis and I rode it right before lunch. I was a little nervous before I got on... I loved the ride. I did feel a little queasy after I got off but I was ok 15 minutes later. Sis said she would have puked if the ride had lasted for another minute.

I love roller coasters. I love the tea cups. I did NOT love Mission Space. I am glad I went on it, but never again. I never felt I was spinning, but just the pressure. I followed all the instructions, but it took me hours to feel normal again. I didn't miss my calling. Being an astronaut is not in my future.

Have not personally rode MS. But have heard from some people that it wasn't as bad as they had anticipated.

I am a big chicken and was worried about getting sick. I liked it so much that I went again the next day. I would suggest not going for a few hours after a big meal though. The first time we had a light lunch and was just fine. The second time we had eaten a big lunch and I got a little queezy but not so bad that it didn't go away during the ride.

I can't ride teacups either and I didn't feel anything. I just kept my head back and looked straight ahead. I didn't even glance down to push the buttons. DH closed his eyes and felt ill. When it was over I kept saying - that's it?? I have to try it again next weekend. I would definitely give it a go if I were you.

I took a low-drowsy Dramamine just to head off any problems, though I am not at all prone to motion sickness (other than Body Wars which tears me right up). I had no problem with MS, only feeling the G-Forces, but no sensation of spinning whatsoever.

That said, you ARE spinning. Your body will know it even if your mind regesters otherwise. So if you use the Coke suggestion, be sure to drink it AFTER the ride, not before. Think of what happens when you take a can of soda and shake it up............no matter what your mind tells you, your body still knows it's spinning, so you don't want a tummy full of soda right before you ride.

Did they mellow the ride out?

I always get sick on spinning rides and all the hype turned out to be just that. :)

It was a fun experience for the 4 of us traveling...The only uneasiness I felt was watching the space station (or whatever they call it) while waiting in line.

Go enjoy!!! ::yes::
