anyone that has a handicaped parking sticker I need help!!

I think that it is a good idea to have the HP and matching ID card. I have lots of ex-coworkers in the fire department that are listening to their scanners as I type this. With the ID, the situation can be resolved without being broadcast over the air. The alteranative is for my buddies to get a good laugh at my expense. :jester:
To each their own opinion though, plus I have no choice anyway as this is the state law here.

In past couple of years Massachusetts has switched from the windshield placard which had a picture of the holder on the back to a hanging placard which also had a picture but it was visible to all as it was hanging from the rear view mirror. A big uproar resulted because folks were afraid they could be identified as HP and at risk to be followed etc. So a sleeve is now included to cover the picture but must be removed when asked by law inforcement personnel. There is an ID number visible as well as an expiration date.

Thanks, Figaro.
I'm not sure if Wisonsin even has the name on any more (since we've lived in Minnesota for a whiel). It makes sense that people wouldn't want to have ID on the card since someone could easily find out where you live or what you look like with some not so nice intentions in mind. I'd be worried about a second piece that you have to have with you. We had enough trouble keeping the card in the vehicle it was needed in. It's much easier now since I have the handicapped plates. Now my worry is that I will get so used to NOT having anything to put out when I park, that I'll forget to do it when we're not using the van.

In Virginia, the side of the placard which faces in has both the name and birth date of the person to whom it is issued. However, the DMV says that if a person desires, they my use something to normally block those two fields BUT if asked by a policeman they must show that information to be compared with the Driver's License. I use a Mickey Mouse Band-Aid to cover those two blocks; if need be it can be easily removed.

In Oregon you can't get a HP for Any kind of walking disablity!!Only for Heart patients, and Irriatable Bowel dieseases??

In Oregon, our HP has our driver's license number on it if you have one. If you don't drive you are required to get a state issued ID and that number is put on the placard. That way you just show your Driver's license to any police asking.

I got mine because I have trouble with my legs and sometimes use a cane or a wheelchair. We only use the placard if I am having a bad day. My mother got one for the same reason.

When I went to renew last year, I just brought in the old one and got a new one. No doctor or nothing. They expire with our driver's license which in on our birthday. Real easy to remember.

Tink2dw, where are you in Oregon?

I didn't know there were so many rules in different states. Wisconsin (where we used to live) had about the same requirements as Minnesota (where we've lived for a while). I thought that trying to get all the states doing the smae thing for handicapped parking permits was one of the goals of the ADA. Sounds like there is a way to go yet. Thanks all for sharing. This is interesting.
