A bit chilly for swimming at Castaway Cay but terrific weather further south in the Caribbean. It did not affect my vacation at all.

thanks for your reply.
I wasn't sure how much swimming or water activities we'd be able to do in December.

We did the 4 night during the 1st week in December '03. The decorations were wonderful, but we've decided we'd rather have warmer weather. Very windy, and quite chilly at CC. We'll be cruising in Oct. this year!

The weather - any time of year - can be hit or miss. I've been to the Bahamas in summer and had it rain the whole time. 3 of my cruises have been in December/January. For 2 of those it was 80+ degrees and beautiful at CC. One time it was chilly and windy. I went twice at spring break and we had beautiful weather. My neighbor went in August and said CC was so hot she was miserable. It all really just is what you're comfortable with and the luck of the draw with Mother Nature.

Our 7 Day magic trip was the first week in December. I thought the weather was fantastic! We had one night of rough seas but because of "the wine package", it didn't bother me too much. ;) (Is the boat rocking or is that just me?)

CC was perfect with temps in the 80's. We never had a cold day and were able to swim at the mickey pool everyday - with sunshine!

I wouldn't hesitate to go in December again.

We did a December cruise and the weather was warm. It was a little windy which made it cool for swimming, but we did any way. I agree with the OP it is hit or miss anytime you go.

The perks for the December cruise are definately the festive decorations.

studentmom, DW and I were on one this past December. I believe we were on the same one as Sam. It was a bit chilly. Cold fronts will sweep through the southeast and then into the Bahamas and Caribbean. This stirs up the water a little or a lot depending on the front. We experienced 2 days that had pretty good size waves. One day which affected a number of people in different ways. It in no way will influence us to not cruise in December again. We can put up with the cool weather and of course you get to see all the decorations and get into the spirit.

We go in december every other year and we love it. Its risky with all the cold fronts and rough seas in the atlantic, but we love it. The temperatures are nice once you get into the caribbean. Florida might be a bit cold, but its usually not bad. It was awesome in 2002. This past december it wasn't great at CC, but at least it wasn't raining. :sunny:

We were on the 12/4/03 cruise & CC was beautiful! The perfect beach day because it wasn't hot but you could still get in the water. It was chilly for a minute but then you got use to it. The kids were in & out all day long! We had rough seas then & on our 11/15/03 cruise but since we have dealt with 20+ swells feel that we can handle anything now. :) We are cruising 12/10 this year. Our favorite thing about cruising then are the decorations. The snow blower on CC was amazing. :)

We were on the Eastern Magic in 12/03. The weather in the Caribbean was 85-90 degrees everyday. Our day at CC was 70 degree with 10 to 15 mph winds. No rain, enjoyed every bit. We are going after Thanksgiving this year hoping for great weather again.

Oh, forgot to say that it was quite warm after Saturday night. We wore shorts the entire week after bundling up for the sail away party.

Did the 10 day for Christmas. First day Key West, pretty cool, then headed south and it warmed right up.

Last day at Castaway Cay, didn't know if the captain would get the ship in, but he did. Had a huge storm the night before and broke the nets to keep the sharks out, so no one could swim or do any water activities. It was cold. But the ship added a bunch of other activities, so we had a great relaxing day.

We loved cruising over Christmas!

We went in December 1998 on the Magic - (time to plan another voyage! :boat: ) The weather was terrific in Florida and even better in the Bahamas. It is not always that warm in Florida in December, so watch the weather so that you pack appropriately. We were just at WDW two weeks ago and the weather was colder, but pleasant.

I was also on the 10 day christmas cruise, and man on Key west it was pretty nice, it was sunny but a little cold. (This coming from a person living in orlando, florida..so depends on what cold is..I did go snorkeling, though.) But CC was horrible, Windy and cold and no swimming..i want to go back when its nice!

We were on the 03/04 NYE cruise. Windy, but warm. Sprinkles on Castaway Cay.....I was surprised how many went back to the ship. We were snorkeling, so we were already wet. Water and air temp were comfortable.
Very odd on one sea day, gale force winds, and my wife, who is always cold, was comfortable in the wind in shorts and Tee shirt on the very front of the ship in FRONT of the windscreen..
