Anyone Take or Are Taking the AutoTrain This Summer/

It will be our first trip on the auto train this summer as well. We are leaving August 13 and coming back on August 26, we can't wait.....:goodvibes

We are taking the autotrain too this August! Only going one-way, it's my daughter's car and she's returning to college, so we are bringing it down. My other D and I are flying home though, but first staying at Disney a few days - figure we're down there already!

I reserved 2 roomettes! We've NEVER taken the train before other than commuting to work. We are really looking forward to the trip, a little nervous about driving 5 hours and making sure we get there in time (hopefully, no traffic), but we have to make our way around Baltimore and Washington, DC so I'll be nervous about making it in time. We plan on leaving by 6am, 7am the absolute latest!

Last November we drove down and took the Auto train back. We had a great time, we booked a roomette. This year we are going to take it both ways, and we booked a one bedroom. Once you check in and they take your car, you will wait in the station until about 3 when they will start loading the passengers. They will take cars up to 3 p.m. but will not after that (we checked in at 2:30 and were fine). The later you check in, the less choice you have of dinner seatings. When you arrive in Sanford, it is about 45-60 minutes to Disney depending on the traffic.

All in all it was a great trip! Don't forget to go to the lounge for the wine and cheese welcome (sleeping car passengers).

Enjoy the ride!:)

funny, I hadn't even heard of it til yesterday when my cousin asked- but she said she thought Id have to drive to DC (I live in CT) and I have no desire to lose any of our vacation days to travel.....
but it does sound interesting...

Going down in August...bringing my daughter back to college. She needs her car. we did it last year...it's different..got two -one bedrooms..connecting. My husband and son..never did it...it's our family road trip...Going to BCV and the disney 5 day cruise, and vero disney after that...college and back to ny

We are returning for our 6th aug trip on the Autotrain. We will be traveling Aug 10 to Aug 19. We are excited to take the train again. It isn't just a mode of travel it is part of the vacation.

I'd be happy to answer any ?"s anyone may have on the autotrain.

We are taking the Autotrain on August 2 and coming back on August 13. We have a Family Bedroom booked and I think the kids are just as excited to ride the train as they are to go to Disney.

We're taking the autotrain for the first time in August.

Does anyone know how hot it will get in the car?

I'm trying to figure out if it's safe to leave any drug products, cosmetics, hair spray, nail polish... in the car, or if we need to carry everything that's heat sensitive on with us?

Thanks.

Gosh, I have been on the Autotrain 2 times before, but don't recall the car being super-hot. If there is something you are worried about, like a drug or cosmetic, bring it on the people train.

One time I overslept (4-hr drive to train). Now, I am NOT a speeder, but that morning I drove the fastest I ever did in my life, to make that train!

Me and DD24 are getting a handicap family room (I use an ecv). I hope I could send DD up to get wine and cheese for me??? Or maybe a Steward (with tip, of course).

When I proposed a Mom/daughter trip to Disney for September, DD24 was like a little kid again. A few days ago I mentioned getting tickets on the Autotrain, and DD was really excited. We hadn't been on the train since she was a school kid. :cheer2:

Every thing should be fine in the car. Though you may want to make sure you have extra medicine with you if you take something on a daily basis. There can be delays and accessing your vehicle is not possible. I always bring extra-- just incase it is dropped or of a delay.

Enjoy your trip!!
We are less than 5 wks from departure!!

All of our medicines will go into our room with us. The temperature of the auto carriers is not guaranteed and may possibly exceed the maximum safe temperature for medications. Why take the chance?

Have a great time everyone one!!! We should of been boarding on August 14th. I waited to long to buy the tickets and now they are $1000 more.

My best advise is be prepared for delays.. out last trip we never got in till 5pm and our return train was canceled. We will still take it again but just be prepared that anything can happen.

We are taking the train (no auto) in August! I'm really excited, because when I was 7 (back in 1975) my family traveled to Disney World on the train. It is one of my FAVORITE childhood memories!! We stayed at the Poly and had a great week!!
So excited for this trip (my kids' first time at the MK!)!!!!

OK deja vu time. :cool2: I took the Auto Train with my parents when I was almost 7(back in 1976). We stayed off-site at the Hyatt. It was one of my favorite memories and now I'm taking my kids on their first trip to Disney via Auto Train. They are 8 and 5 and we are staying at the Contemporary from 8/3 - 8/13.

Enjoy,

Very cool!! You have an awesome time!!

We just booked our AutoTrain trip for November 26-Dec 4. I rode the train once when I was a teenager and I remember it being fun. This trip will be me, my DH, DS, and DMIL. We are just getting the coach seats. Anyone have any tips for traveling coach? I still need to read that whole autotrain thread, too. Oh yeah, if anyone knows of any good auto train trip reports could you point me to them? I keep searching but they are hard to find if they don't have auto train in the title!

We are taking the autotrain next Thursday. I reserved 2 roomettes, since we purchased a few months ago, the price has gone up another $330!! We are only going one-way, dropping daughter and her car off at college, spending time at Disney, then youngest D and I are flying home. This will just be a girls trip!

Jenni- I am gonna bump my train thread for you to help get you more in the mood:banana:

Happy Rails!!!!!!!
