Hi - my DH2B suffers with motion sickness so the flights and the rides cause him trouble.

Last trip we bought some tablets in the states but he took them in the morning at IOA and although they helped, by lunch time he was so drowsy I'm not sure how we drove back to the hotel in kissimmee - he was fast asleep then for two hours - great waste of an afternoon!!

I read somewhere about taking ginger supplements so I bought some from holland and barrat but not sure what dosage to take. I read that you should start a couple of days before the flight then take so many a day throughout the vacation until you arrive home.

Anyone got any advice on this one?

When I was pregnant and suffered morning sickness I got Motion sickness bands to wear and they seemed to do the trick. I bought mine in Boots and they are sold as Travel Bands or Motion sickness bands.

They worked for me !

hi
yes i have taken ginger capsules for travel sickness. they worked really well, just remember to take them with at least half a cup of liquid - i swallowed one neat and it felt like time bomb going off in my tum!! i just took one the night before and one an hour before we travelled.i t certainly did the trick.

MY DF has taken ginger capsules for travel sickness too and said they worked really well. As you say, she took them for a couple of days before they travelled (on a VERY choppy ferry) :sunny: .

I never even knew they made them!

Ginger is a very tried and tested formula for motion sickness, I just came back from a very choppy weeks cruise and it was the only thing that worked for a lot of people, also just chewing ginger crystals or ginger biscuits can work as well

Hi, would be very interested to learn if ginger capsules do work as I feel really sick on the simulator rides but the worst was the Buzz Lightyear thing in DisneyQuest - only just got off in time or I would have disgraced myself :guilty:

Thanks guys - I bought some of those bands and he wore them on a 3 hour car journey this week and felt fine so they seem to work too - I bought the ginger first and as theme park rides are a bit more "violent" than the car I figured we'd use both.

Jan - I have also read that when you start to feel nauseous on a ride you hold your breathe - and this actually makes you worse... so next time think BREATHE - and fix your eyes on a point straight ahead so you don't notice the spinning so much.

Susan I'll make sure he takes them with a glass of water.

:0)

Do ginger biscuits work as well?

I love dunking ginger biscuits in coffee :)

Ginger biscuits are good for nausea - I have IBS and if I'm feeling queasy I munch on some ginger snaps.

The ginger capsules have a higher concentrate of ginger in them though.

DW munched her way through a few packets of ginger biscuits to try and combat some morning sickness in the early stages of her pregnancy on the advice of our midwife. In the end though we found that the motion sickness bands we bought at Boots were the best thing :)

The only trouble with these is that they are not very attractive when worn with a T-shirt in hot weather. Perhaps someone should come up with a designer version ;) Also they leave a big indentation on your wrist when you take them off, although I understand that this is much better than the alternative :crazy2:

the best thing i've used is boots own brand travel tablets....they are the only ones that work for me and i have terrible motion sickness, has he tried those?

Did you use these on the rides? Or are you just referring to travel? My son uses pills for travel sickness and I have in the last year felt queasy on rides that cause motion sickness but not as yet on every ocassion so I am looking for something I can take that will 99.9% guarantee I wont barf over my kids (they would just die on the spot im sure!!). As im the only adult with them I dont want to ruin the holiday by feeling ill or not going on rides because I may feel sick at the end. Ive ruled out some of the more adventurous rides already but am hoping for a miracle pill or potion that will not make me sleepy but help combat the queasiness.

Go on then Alan, I'll have diamond encrusted Versace ones please ;)

I bought some of those the other day as back up in case the bands and ginger pills fail - glad to know they're effective :goodvibes

The other thing I was thinking about the bands is if he wears them everyday to the parks he's not going to tan under them... so by the time we get to our wedding day he'll have two white stripes around his wrists :rotfl:

I have never taken Ginger but a mate of mine flew to Australia earlier this year
and took 1 capsule with a glass of water before the flight and 1 halfway through the journey also.
They are good for long flights I believe.

Thanks Cami - youve helped put my mind at rest. I shall stock up on the tablets and rattle as I walk!! :flower:

widget - please report back on how successful (or otherwise) the Boots travel tabs are for motion sickness on the rides. Thanks Jan
