Anyone take Cymbalta for fibromyalgia?

As for the weaning off rather than quitting cold turkey, that is what I did, it took quite awhile too and I still had the awful withdrawal effects, of course YMMV

Is the half dose the 30mg? That's what he started me on, and said to up it to 60mg if I tolerate it well.

I took it for about 2 years and stopped it about 4 years ago. I didn't notice a big improvement on it (also took Lyrica, no big improvement) so we just weaned me off of it. Coming off the medicine was the only time I had side effects and it was awful! I used to get what I called "brain zaps" it felt like my head was being electrocuted. Remember those clear balls they sold at Spence'rs that had the little lightening bolt looking things in them that would attract to your hand when you touched the surface of the ball? That is what my head felt like for months :(

The brain zaps are a common symptom when stopping SSRI's or SNRI's it's not painful just weird. I know it's recommended to use Prozac when stopping Cymbatla and then wean off the Prozac. There are less side effects that way. I take Cymbalta for depression and anxiety and I do have to take it with food or it upsets my stomach. I haven't had any other side effects. You will notice of you miss a dose.

I found them to actually be pretty painful. And I had them for nearly a year after I got off Effexor (another SNRI). I'd caution anyone to be VERY careful and well read before starting an SNRI.

I also got VERY depressed coming off of it.

I started on 30 and went up to 60. I'm not sure it is a half dose. Just a low dose to begin with.

I had amazing results from Cymbalta for joint pain caused by my Celiac Disease.
After a few years, however, I had taken care of some other health problems and my doctor wanted to see if the joint pain had gone away. With his assistance, I weaned off of Cymbalta slowly over about a month. Despite the slow wean, I became incredibly ill and suffered from withdrawal symptoms from the Cymbalta for almost 4 months. Severe nausea, dizziness, insomnia, unable to concentrate, extreme anxiety and depression. I could cry at the drop of a hat for months. I ended up in the ER because of the nausea. I was unable to function at my normal capability for months. Even almost a year later, I wonder if some of my recent medical problems have been linked to the Cymbalta
I recommend that no one take this medication even though I had incredible results from it. That is how severe my withdrawal was from it. Anything that causes that much havoc on my body when I am trying to get off of it makes me worried about what it is doing when I am taking it.

I hope if you do decide to take it you have wonderful success with it and minimal side effects but I would ask your doctor to work with you on other options.
