ANYONE "SURPRISED" BY INFO. ON THEIR OWN BIRTH CERTIFICATE?

Well, not that I am surprised or anything about this, but my son has had 3 different birth certificates.

The first one listed me as mom, no dad (it would cost extra to add the father since we weren't married. I couldn't see the point)

Second one, me as mom, added bio father as dad (needed to do this for child support)

Third one, me as mom, my husband as dad, after my DH adopted him.

The funny thing is, that the latest BC actually has more info on it then the first 2 did. The first 2 only had sons name, birth date and parents. The latest one has his height at birth, weight, hospital, etc.

Dh was born in 1966, in Iowa, and has a big red "illegitimate" stamped on his BC. The space for "father" says "unknown".

He knew his mother was single when she had him, but it was still an ugly shock to see that "Illegitimate" stamp on it.

dh's best friend was raised by a single mom. when he was around 18 he got a copy of his birth certificate and starts spazzing out "who is pedro and why did'nt you tell me i was italian". his mom is like "what???" he had been born in an old catholic hospital that used the latin phrase for "father unknown" on the birth certificate "pedro was actualy padre". :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My mom was adopted, and she was 59 when she realized she wasn't carrying her real birth certificate. When she finally got the birth certificate, it said she had two older siblings.

We've been looking for them ever since.

My poor grandma found out she was NOT the first live born child... I found it on her BC when working on the family tree. What makes us mad is ppl KNOW what happened to the older child and NO one will talk. Not even if it was a girl or boy (we've heard girl).

The baby most likely was born and died (around 1924-25) at home. But no one knows WHY. My gram really wanted to know. I wrote to health and social services in both Michigan and North Dakota... neither has record of the birth or death. :(

When my Grandfather was getting ready to retire way back in the 80's, he went to the social security place to get the paperwork done. They had to get a copy of his birth certificate. Well, the first problem was he was born at home - most babies were back in the 20's. Well, they could not find a record of him - because on his birth certificate filed with the state, it said Baby Boy Smith, his name wasn't put on it at all.

My great-grandmother's birth certificate has her race listed as "mulatto."

I have an older sibling whom I have never met, and know nothing about.

my mom's first name was different. Of course, her parents are dead now and her siblings are elderly........no one knows the story behind it.

My FIL's name on his birth certificate is Vincenzo..but he goes by James. The only two pieces of paper that have his name as Vincenzo are his birth certificate and his Army discharge papers.
He has never legally changed his name, ahs never been called anything but Jim-I have NO idea why they named him Vincenzo.
Maybe it's an Italian thing?
-we have a friend whose name is Vincent and his whole family calls him Jim, while everyone else alls him Vinnie. :confused3

Oh and oddly enough my FIL's father's name on his birth certificate is Salvatore, but he only ever went by Thomas/Tom.

My husband and his 2 brothers are named what they are called, thankfully. LOL

My birth certificate only has me as existing since the early 1990's (I was born in 1984). I think this probably has something to do with being half-adopted (by my dad). Never seen the original and have no idea if it would have bio-fathers name on it. I don't know who he is (heard he wasn't interested).

Can't believe some of these stories though..!

My dads was off by a year too.

I just took a close look at mine and found that my moms name is wrong. She goes by her middle name but not legally. Its all messed up though on my BC.

When I was about 11, I noticed that the date filed said April 1966. I thought that was strange since I was born November 1965. I asked my mother and she said that there was a mistake and they had to correct it. When I was about 16 we were watching a tv movie with Patty Duke looking for her birth daughter and my mother was crying throughout the whole movie at parts that weren't really sad.

My little detective brain put it together and figured that the "mistake" on my birth certificate was the number of previous births and my mother had given a baby up for adoption. Turns out I was right.

Not on a birth certificate, but social security has my dad's date of death incorrect in their records. I guess a death certificate with the correct date isn't enough proof. :rolleyes2

My dad found out he was born in an ASYLUM! :earseek:

Dang!!! Well, that explains a few things!

:duck:

When my dad was born, the doctor made a mistake and added an "s" to his last name. My grandparents were poor and did not have the money to get it changed. Now I have a name with an "s" at the end while my aunts/uncles/cousins do not.

When my dad's oldest sibling went to collect SS, she discovered she was actually 2 months older than she and everyone else thought. Turns out Gram was pg when she got married to gramps. They even slept in the same bed til the day he died. They were such a loving couple...

Not my birth certificate but when I saw my parents divorce papers it had the year they were married and I found out my mom lied about the year. They were married 6 months before I was born. Oops- found out I was one!

Probably about 10years ago my mom went to get a copy of her bc and was unable to find it. She knew the county she was born in, but they told her they didn't have one on file for her. She finally discovered that the last name listed on her bc was her maternal g'ma last name. So for whatever reason it was not listed under my g'ma's last name or my g'pa's, (they were not married when my mom was born). So legally my mom was a Turner until she married my dad not a Brown as always believed.

My aunt had a different middle name on her b/c.

A friend's sister doesn't know exactly how to spell her name, and apparently it's handwritten on the birth certificate and Mom doesn't remember how she spelled it (she'd just given birth, no one blames her).

My mother-in-law's name is Vannye, rhymes with Annie. I think she was named after a relative named Savannah. Her b/c said Varney Annye or something like that. Apparently, someone said, "Vannye," and the person wrote Varney. Then, they said, "No, A N N Y E" so the birth certificate person wrote Annye as the middle name. She goes by her middle name, Louise, so she definitely had to get it legally changed. We wanted our kids to call her Granny Vannye, but she refused. And, my mother is Frances, so she would have been Granny Franny. She refused, too.

Guess I'll be Granny Anny, in the very distant future.

Anita
