Anyone still send request faxes - or has "room ready" done away with them?

It's been a while since I haven't stayed DVC and another thread got me wondering about whether or not they still accept room request faxes. I always used to do this and know by experience that they were read and I was usually very lucky with my rooms. Now that they're trying to get everyone into the first available room do you think they still consider the faxes = thought I remember someone saying that they were trying to stop all the faxes - anyone have any recent experiences to share?

I have heard confilicting info on this. I have heard some who recently visited WDW say they still faxed their requests and they were honored, while others will say that they do not even look at them. I would say...if you want to fax it, then just fax it. It can't hurt either way.

I would have your requests added to your reservation. That way they don't have to match up a fax with your reservation. You can always call central reservations and have them added.

A couple of days ago I added my room request to our April res. at CSR and mentioned my plan to fax a few days ahead of arrival as we have in the past. She was quite encouraging and seemed to think it was a good idea.

My past experience doing this has been a bit mixed: Both times we stayed at Moderates (POFQ & CBR) we got great rooms right where we requested. When we stayed at ASMo, our request had been ignored and we had to switch rooms after the first night. (On behalf of ASMo, however, the cms more than made up for it with extreme magic dust later in our stay.)

Last year, as I checked in to the CBR, the CM said that she was looking at what was available. Then, she asked if I had any preferences--other than what was on my ressie, upstairs or down, view, connecting or not. I suppose that they have a list of what is open and match it up as soon as people arrive to as close to what they request as possible. Do they "hold" rooms for people checking in later who have specific requests??? I don't know.
