Anyone staying at Shades of Green in May ?

I just saw a couple additions to the ride-closure list for the month of May:

  • Cinderella's Carrousel - 5/4 - 5/24
  • Jungle Cruise - 5/11 - 5/24

That's in addition to:
  • Contemporary's Concourse Steakhouse - Closing 5/10/08 - ???
  • Epcot's Nine Dragons Restaurant - 4/6/08 - 11/30/08
  • Hollywood Studios Journey Into Narnia - 1/2 - 5/31/08
  • Disney All Star Sports Grand Slam Pool - 4/21 - 5/16/08
  • Boardwalk Villas Community Pool - 4/21 - 5/9/08
  • Caribbean Beach Resort Old Port Royale Pool - 1/7/08 - 9/15/08

I don't arive until the 25th, so fortunately, these new closings won't affect my family (unless the work runs behind schedule).

yeah , i was kinda sad about the carousel.. my kids LOVE riding them . I thought we dodged any big refurbs.. oh well, still not bad as some other months!!

Last year when we went Rock N Roller coaster was down. That's my sons favorite ride so we were both so sad.

If they run on schedule we will catch those rides when they open after the refurb on our last few days.

I saw that about the carrousel the other day.:guilty: My DDs are going to be so sad, it's my 5 year old's favorite ride (I know, I know, but she likes it that much!:confused3). We will get to ride it our first night there, but then it's closed for the remainder of our trip.

Hopefully we will get to ride Jungle Cruise a few times before it shuts down. Both girls have been "skippers" in the past, so we all enjoy it!

We arrive on the 9th so Jungle Cruise will have to be one of the first things we do so we don't miss it. I know a lot of people think it's dated but I still think it's a ton of fun, the cast members really do make this ride.

We won't be able to get to any parks till aroudn 4 on the 9th and I know that's a P&PP date so we had not planned on going to MK, but I also try to avoid MK on weekends so we might have to pop over to MK right after we check in on the 9th just to ride the Jungle Cruise, then head over to EPCOT like we originally planned.

We will be there for the first time May 4-9. I am so excited, I just booked the room a few days ago with no problem.

We thought about the poolside room but decided against it. I think we are going to request a room in the older section. Traveling with two kids - I need to be close to the pool. I also like the idea of the fridge being larger.

We couldn't get the poolside room. They were all booked, so we requested rooms in the old section. We were on the second floor last year facing the pool. It was nice to sit on the balcony and watch my daughter with her DD in the pool or just a short ride down the elevator to go to the pool myself. My granddaughter thought it was neat because every morning there were turkeys running around the grounds.

Is everyone as excited as I am?!?!?!

I'll be at SOG May 4th -9th.
My group has 4 rooms reserved. We were initially going to request 2 suites b/c we have never stayed in one but we decided we wanted the privacy of our own rooms. We did not make any room requests. When we check in, I am going to see if we can be near each other and we would like to have balconies facing the golf course. There is something about sitting on the balcony, drinking a cold beer, (or coffee) and watching the golfers go by that really adds to my WDW vacation. I can not wait to relax:goodvibes

Now how does everyone qualify to stay at Shades of Green ?

My DH is Army and my dad is retired Air Force ( my parents are traveling with us) so we are covered either way !

We will be down there May 7-16 and last fall requested two poolside rooms, but they were all booked. So, we requested two adjoining rooms, but they weren't sure they could do that. Finally, we just asked for two rooms in the old section that we could see the pool.

I didn't call back because I didn't want to be annoying, but I'm thinking as time gets closer, maybe I should be a little more specific. I've seen the plans on this site, but can't really tell which are the "best rooms" to ask for. . .anyone have any specific ideas?

Or maybe I should just hope I luck out? Ideas?

SoG is an AFRC complex, a great deal no matter where in the world you are. (Ok, we haven't made it to the Korea one yet, but I'll vouch for Hawaii, Bavaria and Disney :thumbsup2 )

Basically, you have to have an active duty or retired ID card. (Some other extra folks who can use it too.) Each ID holder can reserve up to 3 rooms. (All guests do not have to be ID holders. We go as guests of my retired AF stepdad...)

You probably were not able to get poolside because it is it's own category (ground floor, poolside) that costs more, and sells out pretty quickly. and, unfortunately they will always tell you that they can't guarentee adjoining or connecting rooms.

I think for best rooms, it really depends on what you are looking for. Close to the lobby, close to the parking garage, away from it all, etc!

My DH is active duty Air Force!

It's always funny when we go on vacation and have to fly because I get all excited, but he does it all the time! He would just rather be flying the plane like normal, instead of being the passenger, LOL! It is nice having him around to let me know what all of the noises are (like the gear going up, etc.).

Mine is one of the more obscure eligibilities (you have to read halfway down the list before you find it): "Other supporters of DoD- U.S. Federal employees when assigned in areas outside the U.S."

I work for the US Dept of State Foreign Service. I don't have a military ID, so I hope I don't have any problem proving my eligibility when checking in, or even getting through the gate. I was also told that I could purchase park tickets there at the discounted prices.

My husband did his time in the USMC but now he's full time Air National Guard (air force). I also did my 6 in the air national guard. We've heard so much about shades and one night in Jan we just decided to go for it. It was kinda like "want to go to disney?" OK! and it was booked..lol.

My husband is a DOD Civilian. I feel so honored to have the opportunity to stay at SOG along with those in active duty serving our country. I think it is really great for those serving to have some place that they can get a nice vacation at such a beautiful resort with great rates.

okay... I know we are not going in May but in April...but I'll chime in... mine DH is retired Air Force
