I am looking for some input-we have a 4brdm house booked at Windsor Palms and 2 rooms booked at Port Orlean Riverside. We would save $3000 staying in the house-no brainer right? Well then I started hearing about people who did this at this time off year and could not get into the parks. How much does that suck? I would love to stay in the house for the room(we have 4 kids and are bringing my parents) and the convience and money saver for breakfast. But I can't help but think about parking and not getting into the parks! Any thoughts or experiences. We will be there 12-26 thru 1-2.

We haven't stayed offsite for XMAS yet, but we will be doing so this Dec. 19 - Jan 1. We'll be close to you in a 6 bedroom house at Oak Island Cove, which is just behind Splendid China, which you'll pass on your way to Windsor Palms. We stayed at Windsor Palms last year for Thanksgiving, and I've been on numerous other Disney trips, and have also probably read some of the comments you've seen about being off-site at XMAS, so I feel I'm qualified to comment. :)

I think as long as you plan to get to the parks early (like 30 minutes prior to opening time), and you stay there all day, you should be fine. This is our plan, and I feel that the benefits of staying in a house off-site far outweigh on-site for us. We'll have 3 kids ages 5, 8, 8, an 80 year old grandmother, and a couple of 50 somethings as well as several 30 somethings in our group for a total of 12. I'd recommend taking your $3000 in savings and planning a nice, leisurely sit-down lunch each day as a mid-day break. The convenience of being able to eat breakfast as your house, as well as doing a bit of laundry there will be great. It will also be nice to all be together, but with separate sleeping areas. I say stick with the house.

Also, be sure to plan to go to a park that's not the early entry park of the day, and probably avoid Magic Kingdom on XMAS. For New Years Eve, I think our plan will be to go to Animal Kingdom because it will just be us with our 2 kids at that point who wouldn't be able to stay up for midnite fireworks anyway. I've read that the Animal Kingdom is least crowded New Years Eve because it closes earlier and won't have fireworks, but that's fine for us.

don't know if this fits into your plans or if you're only going to disney during your trip but we went to seaworld last NYE and it was great. No queues, no problems parking, we left for three hours in the middle of the day and got back in about 5pm, watched the fireworks at midnight and got on I-4 and back into our hotel room at 192 by 12.30 - and we even went back a few days later to do stuff again (and this wasn't our first trip there either). It was a lot less stressful than the years we spent at Disney (florida and california) or Universal.

We stayed offsite from 12/27-1/3 two years ago, and it was fine. We got to the parks when they opened. The only day that they turned people away was New Years Eve. We went to AK on New Years Eve because we didn't care to stay out until midnight with three small children and that park wasn't filled to capacity. We would leave the parks around 4-5 and they were still admitting people then. My sister and BIL went back to the parks in the evenings and never were turned away either. I think you will be fine. I think you are smart to get a house with all those people. You will have a wonderful time.
