For our spring break trip, we're thinking about skipping Disney and going to Sea World, Aquatica, Discovery Cove and Universal. We've gone to Disney at least twice a year for the past I don't know how many years, and we're thinking it's time for a change. I have ressies at Fort Wilderness, but since we probably won't visit the Disney parks (with the pricing at the various parks, it makes financial sense to either do all Disney or all other attractions), I'm wondering if we'd be better off saving a few dollars and staying at Tropical Palms. Can someone who has been there tell me about it? I'm particularly interested in site size and whether we'll be able to maneuver our 45' motorhome through the campground and comfortably fit on a site, plus find a place to stash a car trailer. I don't expect we'll be spending a lot of time at the campground itself.

While I have not stayed there, I did visit last trip to see if it was an option for me in the future. It is a campground. The sites are pretty open, little shade for the most part, close together. I do think you would be able to get your motorhome in, since there were several sites with large Class A's in them. It is very close to Old Town, so I am not sure how quiet it would be. I think it would serve as a base camp, but didn't impress me as a destination type resort. The result of my site survey was that I would use it if I couldn't get a place at FW, but I wouldn't spend much time there. In short, I didn't think the savings would be worth it.

Being that you want to stay on the other parks side of town I recommend Turkey Lake which is about a 5 minute drive from US/IOA. It's $15 a night and much closer to the attractions you plan on seeing. The number is 407- 299- 5581. I've stayed there a few times and it's really nice. Not much to do at night. They also just installed an electric gate so you don't have to get out every time you leave after hours. They have an area close to the camp area where you can park the trailer. Another thing to add is they have frisbee golf and a huge lake for fishing.

We've stayed there a few yrs ago and it was ok. Someone posted back at Christmas that the bathrooms were nasty. I would check into that Turkey Lake cg if I were you.

I also had thought about tropical palms as a option but we are not the type of people that go from steak to hamburg and for us it's just not worth it as we would rather skip a few out to eats than skimp on the camp site! But it's all about what you like for us there is no trade off good luck what ever you decide K.:thumbsup2

I have stayed at both FW and TP. Do not do it!! Now, at Tropical Palms, we stayed in cabins, vs camping with our hs wrestling team. The cabins were horrid. I have pics. The one we were in, had a big whole where the register was. 2 microwaves and only 1 worked. No air one night -the whole campground was without electricity. That was 2 years ago. Last year, they put our team in newer cabins. I didn't stay there so can't tell you about them.

As far as the campground at TP, the sites are very small - one right on top of the other. Not much shade either. The pool is small but it's ok. Playgound for kids right next to it, I belive. The pool was filled with Salt water... don't know why. It is right next to Old Town but you really don't hear the noise. At least I didn't coz I was so tired every night.

If you're camping & don't mind the closeness, it might not be a bad place. Like I said, I didn't camp. But NOTHING, can compare to Fort Wilderness, in my opinion. I don't know what the difference is in price... but I would highly recommend FW. I really did not like TP & will NEVER stay there again. (and our wrestling team goes every year in June and they stay there (in the cabins) because it is so cheap. I will be staying at my timehare from now on.

Turkey Creek is a good option and it closer to Universal. We have stayed there. It's not FW but when we went the bathroom was clean not new are anything but clean. Site was shaded. Nice campground.

They mention on the website for Turkey Lake that they have a pool. Can anyone tell me if it is nice & additional cost? Thanks!

We stayed there about a 1 1/2 years ago and enjoyed it. They were in the process of remodeling the restrooms with a really cool beachy - tiki bamboo design. We loved it- we went with other familes and spent the evening at Old Town. Camping World is up the road and grocery stores and tons of restaurants, etc.... My kids were 15 and 10 at the time with a friend each. Our site was located by the small pond with alligators - the kids loved it! Nice clean environment. They are running a special right now also. We are staying Eater weekend at a sister property called Sun N Fun RV in Sarasota, that s how I saw the specials they were running. We had no complaints large spaces for our 34' super slide tt.pirate:

I've been staying at Tropical Palms for years. I almost gave up on the park last year but I couldn't believe the difference new ownership makes. They have entertainment every weekend. The heated pool was fantastic for the kids and I. I would recommend Tropical to anyone with young children.
