I was wondering, was it noisy? How far of a walk did you have from the room to the lobby, food, or the bus stop? Did you feel like you missed being on the Savannah?

i'd like to know this too. let's take it to the top of the board

We were booked for a standard view for our trip in 2001, but asked for, and received, an upgrade to Savannah view. I was so glad that we did. The kids spent all of their "room time" on the balcony watching the animals. After they were in bed, my husband and I did the same-very fascinating. If we were to go to AKL again (and we would love to!) we would not take the chance that we might not get the savannah view, we'd book it, even though it costs more.
Hope that helps!

and we had booked a standard view....we got there after 3pm and had requested bunk beds...since we got there late and checked in late (lots of people get there early & leave luggage in luggage room) no bunkbeds were available in the standard view so we were upgraded to savannah view....we had a far walk to the zebra section & once we got inside, we found out that the room had been smoked in (it stunk) even though it was a nonsmoking room. Also, the bunkbeds had been slept in and were not made! so we walked back to the lobby and told the CM about the smoke & beds....She upgraded us again!!!! to a savannah deluxe! it was awesome.....but just to note...the size of the savannah deluxe was just about the same size as the garden wing at the contemporary.

since we were in the 5500 block of the zebra section, the walk to the elevators was pretty far....it was easier to visit our friends on the 3rd floor by going down the stairs.....also, study the map they give you...we didn't and it was 3 days before i realized that i could take our bank of elevators to the 1st floor & arrive nearer to mara than going to the lobby and changing elevators. it was fun.

ps. the buses ran pretty fast...only once did the bus from epcot not show up (we waited 40 minutes & basically highjacked another bus to get back).

Thanks for the review. I was going to ask for an upgrade when we got there even if I have to pay for it.

We had 3 rooms booked standard and we weren't given any upgrade although we did have to ask to be relocated from our first rooms because they were on the 5th floor and had no balconies. We were moved to the 3rd floor which is lobby level and they were terrific rooms. They were down the hall in Ostrich Trail and our view was the front of the building by the handicap parking. There were lots of trees so we didn't actually see cars. It was very quiet and convenient to the lobby and the door to the bus stop. I would stay there again if we booked standard view. There are plenty of places to view the animals throughout the lodge so there were no problems whatsoever. You'll fall in love with AKL. Have a great time.

We just stayed a AKL a few weeks ago, with a standard view. Our personal feelings are that we didn't get the full benefits of staying there since we didn't have "the view." Yes, there are other spots to view the animals, but we have 7-month old twins and found that we spent a fair amount of time in our room, with no view.

As for your other questions: No, it was not noisy at all. Yes, we had a fairly lengthy walk to the elevators. But once we finally got to the elevators, the lobby, food, and bus stop was just a short walk. My suggestion (if you keep a standard room) would be to ask for a room near the elevators. Have fun!

We have had standard views the 2 times we have been. First time was on the 4th floor overlooking the lobby, very nice. The second time was just awful, looking at the parking out front, but we did pay for standard so we knew what to expect. One thing though, standard or savannah view depending on your location, you can have one heck of a long walk to the lobby and the food court.
