I requested "ground floor, near lobby" and I was in the first hall past the childcare. It wasn't too far, but with the shop and elevator bank and childcare, that's about as close as you can get on that floor.
Just a note, we stayed at BWV in Oct.. Requested pool, first floor. Received pool, 5th floor. When my DW said we requested 1st floor she was told they go by your first request, which was pool. It was during F&W Festival so I also knew I booked one of the last 1 BD for that week, so I really didn't argue it.
But you may want to take that into consideration when making your request. Just a FYI.

True, you want to put the requests in order of importance, in case they can't meet them all. In my case, ground floor was the most important because my claustrophobic mom wouldn't ride elevators.
It's interesting that WDW goes by order of importance, because I was told by the folks in Anaheim (or wherever they answer the phones at!) that Disneyland Hotel requests didn't work like that. You just made your requests and they would randomly pick from them. I should've called back to confirm that but it wasn't super important to me at the time so I didn't bother. Now I'm wondering if that CM was just making that up!
We did in August but did not request any special room and just took what they gave us. It looked out into the court yard area behind the lobby and then across to SAB. If you went out on that patio you could see the lake. It was great and very close to everything.
I stayed at the Yacht Club a few years back and booked standard room. I got a ground floor room right around the corner from the lobby. I didn't put in any special requests and would have been happy with any room, but was pleased with what I got.
I assume that the categorization of rooms in the Beach Club is similar. You should probably book standard room but also put in your requests (in the order of their importance to you).
We had a water view room and stayed in a room whose patio opened up to the quiet pool. It was awesome! Our room was also close to the secret 1501 entrance that's close to the IG entrance to Epcot. Woo hoo!
